BROAD MINDS Class History We entered Bryant High School in S-eptember in the fall of '41 with 27 mem- bers in our class. Jene Wendel, Delbert Flesher, Bobby Scott and Bob Davidson were new. We were rather shy. The following officers were elected: President. Fred Haffnerg Vice President. Dora Dean Shrider: Secretary and Treasurer, Joe Arnold. Wanda Pyle represented our class in the Queen contest winning third place. Our sponsor was Miss Violet' Funk. We enjoyed many parties and of course some of the freshmen boys were initiated. Joe Arnold left us to go to Portland and Betty Morgan came to us from Pennville in the latter part of the year. In the fall of '42 most of us returned to be sophomores. With 25 members, Junior Butcher and Arthur Huey failed to return. We werent quite so shy this year, as our teachers soon found out. We elected the following officers: President, Jimmy Miller: Vice President, Delbert Flesher: Secretary and Treasurer, Bill Orr. Our sponsor was Mr. Lee Glentzer. We enjoyed several parties. Mary Harden and Nelda Iliff dropped out during the year. Again we came back to our school rooms in the fall of '43, to find that only 20 members returned. Now classified as juniors we felt fairly sure of ourselves. Just to think only one more year and we would be seniors! Jimmy Miller went to Portland to school, and Bob Scott and Dora Dean Shrider dropped out. We electcd the following officers: President, Royce Wright: Vice President, Keith Gill- espieg Secretary and Treasurer, Delbert Flesher. Our sponsor, and also director of our play, was Mr. Donald Deaton. The name of the play which we gave was, They Gave Him a Co-Ed. The proceeds went to finance the Junior and Senior Reception. Hazel Pyle represented our class as queen in the Queen contest by taking first place. We also had several parties all of which we enjoyed. Duane Dickson from Penn- ville joined us in the second semester. As we returned as seniors we began to realize our place in the world, There were 21 of us, but Marvin Towell soon left us to join Uncle Sam's Navy. Hazel Pyle was elected President: Dorothy Frank, Vice President: Eugene Dynes, Secre- tary and Treasurer. Mr. Wayne Haffner was chosen as our sponsor. We presented the play, Arn I lntruding? under the direction of Mr. C. E. Beck. Virginia Upty- graft represented our class in the Queen contest taking second place. A few parties were held which we enjoyed. Now we leave you to go out into the world. Some of us have gone all twelve years together. Some may go to college. Others may get married. Many may be called into Uncle Sam's fighting forces. ' Virginia Craig
