S T851 9 0 Chall ny We represent the generation which shall determine the use of atomic powerf a responsibility which emphasizes more and more the necessity of co-operative living. Coeoperative living cannot be obtained without the knowledge of the economic, political, and social conditions of the world. This knowledge cannot be secured without complete concentration on procuring information. The schools in every community furnish us with information and teach us to think. We, in the United States, are fortunate to have schools in which everyone is entitled to an education, regardless of his ancestral background. Are we going to take advantage of this opportunity to learn? Cramming for tests only gives us temporary good grades. lt really does not help us much, since these facts are not thoroughly understood. To truly develop our minds we must study each as- signment consistently and thoroughly. With an extra effort in our studying, knowledge can be gathered abundantly. Our knowledge and the capacity to use this knowledge wisely, determines the world success in preserving peace. Are we mature enough mentally to accept this challengeg are we going to spend our lives in a world filled with chaos, because through our ignorance we have failed to realize the importance of a well balanced education? A balanced education is not solely the result of memorizing the contents of books, but the ability to put into every day use the factors learned while undertaking either a formal or an informal education. We are tomorrow's rulers and laborers. Are we building a solid foundation of intelligent young people today? We are the challenged, the ones who must learn today how to meet the chal- lenge successfully tomorrow. 6 ww. Miss Mildred Kikiey, of La Otta, Indiana, became our new nurse. Miss Kikley dismisses the students when they are ill, and admits them to school when they return from illness. DENTAL HYGIENIST Mrs. William R. Williams was engaged to check the teeth ot the students in Bryan City Schools. She sent reports to the parents who should be able to proceed with needed :or- rections. RINGWORM EPIDEMIC Both Mrs. Lybarger and Miss Kikley were ot great help during the ringworm epidemic. They inspected each student's head for ring- worm under the new violet-ray lamp pur- chased by the School Board. This procedure prevented ringwonn from spreading quickly in Bryan Schools. I Illlllrllf 1, to .Tom but The first step in meeting the challenge to ccmlvat is training. Training not only :neans working hard on the basketball floor, on the football field, and on the cinder path, but it also means eating the right food and getting the proper amount of sleep, which sometimes means saying good night a little earlier. The next step towards meeting the challenge is coming to- gether. This not only means to meet in a place specified by the coach at a certain time, but it also means organizing the team in an orderly fashion whatever the sport may be. Every performer must have one definite goal in mind: that is: doing the best of his aliilities. Next in meeting the challenge is working together. Workirifg together includes both meeting and training together. If either or any menil er is absent, success will not be attained. lf a team does not work together nothing will he accomplished. However, Icy working together success is guaranteed. A team may win games and still gain nothing it the individuals on the team do not work together. lt is not always the winning team which gains the victory. Through athletics they have kindled an undyzrig spirit to give their alg despite the caas and to gfiiri the Iaures in vtctory cr defeat. VOMIIIIG TOGETHER IS THE BEGINNING. These girls are prompted by Miss Darnrin, who helps them work out motions for new and old yells. The cheerleaders purple ierkins, gold skirts, and white blouses were designed by Miss Damrin, with the help of Miss Miller. Miss Darnrin and the cheerleadf ers felt they needed more support from the student body. With the cooperation of twenty-five girls, a cheer bloc was forrned for the basketball games. The girls in the cheerbloc wore purple skirts and gold long-sleeved blouses. A bus was chartered for this group to go to all Bryans outof- town basketball games. The cheerleaders practiced the new yells and new motions with the cheerbloc in meetings after school. Pep sessions were held in the gym before various games. During the pep sessions rnernbers of the faculty gave short pep talks to the student body. The favorite yell of everyone fron: Bryan is the victory yell. Q' 9 'T , ,X Ls, GIRLS' GYM ,.
