4 THE CORRAL SENIOR REFLECTIONS A NEW CAVE MAN' The hall monltor came into being iust about two or three months ago All the pupils that were late or cuttmg classes could see him leaning on the library door smoking a c1garette or carrv1ng on a ver3 animated conversatlon with the young thlngs in the library His prln cipal pastlme was walking up and down the hall threatening all mere moitals with his horrible vo1ce and occasionally cranmg his neck over the walls and looking into Miss McCarty s room to see lf every one was behax 1ng The hall monltor had a xerv threaten1ng aspect He usually had a xery gloomv hard face and he car11ed a cudgel that resembled the club of the old cave man Before they left school students received his kind pelmission to play hookey for 1f they d1d not his wrath flash ed red hot and he was liable to do almost any thing This IS one plan of student self government that has proved 1n even way a complete success In the fI1St place the monotor obey ed the student s command not to take any names and ln the second plac he was always xery agreeable and convenient to talk to if one dld not hate anything else to do If study hall proved dull and un1nterest1ng all we had to do was to go 1nto the hall and talk over the topics of the day w 1th the hall monitor Quite a number of students found th1 likeable But alas' he IS no mole Ou1 monltor has dlsappealed Our old glum face and cudgel are gone Pup1ls that used to wander around the halls with him now stay 1n the study hall with a very listless ex pression on their faces The hbrary IS qu1et and the students look quite lost What is the matter? Whe1e IS our hall monitor? What has become of the good old days? Perhaps the teachers put so much 1espons1b1l1ty on the shoulders of the said person that he had a nervous breakdown and had to give up the iob The ashes of his cigar are seen no more in the corners of the hall and h1s Caveman cudgel stands motlonless against the door iam T0 THE' BOYS Mr Toastmaster and fellow classmates I assure you that T hate been given a very difficult sub1ect a very complex subiect and as yet I cannot see how I as one of the weaker sex shall be able to handle It To the Boys we all know what we thlnk of them' We ad m1t their numerous faults we excuse their many weaknesses we allow for the1r unpardonable act1ons and whv Mamly because we have to the very natures of the beasts are such that strategy IS required in handling them We girls know that we are the real rulers we get what we want When one of the boys falls for our femmlne charms he IS lost Even now were I to cast one look pernaps such as Cleopatra used at one of our boys at this banquet table he would fall at my feet enthralled' But for fear of breakmg up the banquet I shall refrain from do1ng this I shall not attempt to enter any further into my subyect for fear of the consequences We love our boys we hope they love us So Here s to the Boys' the heirs of glory' the frail chlldren of the dust' the helpless 1nmortals' the msects infinite' the worms' the k1ngs of all beasts' the gods 1n the making .
