COMMONER BRYAN COLLEGE DAYTON, TENNESSEE VOLUME 55 When I was a child, I used to speak as a child, think as a child, reason as a child; when I became a man, I did away with childish things. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I shall know fully just as I also have been fully known. While serving as camp counselor at Camp Victory in Samson, Alabama, in the summer of 1985, Scottie was critically injured in an automobile accident. He spent the academic year of 1985-86 recuperating at home while fellow Christians at Bryan and many other places prayed for his recovery. This year Scottie returned to Bryan. His courage, determination, and spirit will always be a positive example to all of us. We know that the road to recovery has been long and rough for Scottie and that the days ahead may present many additional obstacles. Therefore, the 1987 Commoner is dedicated to Scottie Hunt with the wish for God ' s best for the future. May the Lord bless you richly, Scottie! Dr. George E. Guille, 1930-1931 Dr. Malcolm Lockhart, 1931-1933 Dr. Judson A. Rudd, 1933-1955 Dr. Theodore, C. Hanna became Bryan ' s fifth president at the Inaugural Service held in his honor. Dr. Hanna was elected by the Bryan board of trustees shortly before the homegoing of President Mercer. He was introduced to the college community at the fifty-third annual commencement, Saturday, May 10. Dr. Hanna received his undergraduate degree at Bryan in 1957. He went on to Dallas Theological Seminary, where he earned his master ' s degree and a doctorate. He joined the Winnipeg Bible College and Theological Seminary in 1963 and served as their registrar for three years. In 1966 he was elected president, a position he held for the next thirteen years. Under his leadership the school grew from sixty students to over four hundred students on a brand new campus. He joined Moody Bible Institute in 1980 as vice president and dean of education. In this capacity he has been responsible for all educational administration, which includes day school (1300 students), evening school (2500), the school of missionary aviation (65), graduate program started in June 1985 (250 applicants), and Keswick Christian School in St. Petersburg, Florida (700). He has been married to Mary for thirty-two years. In fact, they had been married only three weeks before he came to Bryan as a student. 14 • Administration • 14 Is •I •a Mayme S. Bedford, Ed.D. Tentative plans are to use the site for the proposed new library and learning center. After years of service as a military base chapel in Tulla- homa, Tennessee, the White Chapel was dismantled and reassembled on Bryan campus by college staff and students. In addition to being the college chapel through the early 1970 ' s, the building was used at different times for a men ' s dorm, a women ' s dorm, staff apartments, music studios, large classes, a radio recording facility, plays, and special programs. In 1986 — 87 it was the location of the Tennessee Homecoming ' 86 exhibit and the evening forensics competitions. Some of the Christian leaders who have spoken or performed from its platform are Francis Schaeffer, Cliff Barrows, Jerome Hines, Charles Stanley, Stuart Briscoe, Manfred Gutzke, Malcolm Cronk, Irvingjensen, Alan Redpath, Paul Van Gorder, E. Schyler English, M.R. DeHaan, Eugenia Price, Harold DeCou, and Donald Grey Barnhouse. This supplement is dedicated to the memories of the many people, programs, and experiences associated with the White Chapel which were used of the Lord to touch thousands of lives over several decades. 113 • Supplement • 113 ' : -T7 ,i,iu!wi)wiiaj)iiwummi ii ui)mii xm . mm — mr The Bryan College Chorale was honored this year by being asked to perform in New York City with five other schools at Lincoln Center in Avery Fischer Hall for an Easter program.
