Text from Pages 1 - 176 of the 1983 volume:

yu if omtnoner - ■■■• -.r J 4 Psalm of Life Tell me not, in mournful numbers, Life is but an empty dream! For the soul is dead that slumbers, And things are not what they seem. Life is real! Life is earnest! And the grave is not its goal; Dust thou art, to dust returnest, Was not Spoken of the soul. Not enjoyment, and not sorrow Is our destined end or way; But to act, that each to-morrow Find us farther than to-day. Art is lon g, and Time is fleeting, And our hearts, though stout and brave, Still, like muffled drums, are beating Funeral marches to the grave. In the world ' s broad field of battle, In the bivouac of Life, Be not like dumb, driven cattle! Be a hero in the strife! Trust no Future, howe ' er pleasant! Let the dead Past bury its dead! Act, — act in the living Present! Heart within, and God O ' erhead! Lives of great men all remind us We can make our lives sublime, And, departing, leave behind us Footprints on the sands of time; Footprints, that perhaps another, Sailing o ' er life ' s solemn main, A forlorn and shipwrecked brother, Seeing, shall take heart again. Let us then be up and doing, With a heart for any fate; Still achieving, still pursuing, Learn to labor and to wait. It involves roommates, suitemates, living in a house with a bunch of people, or living in a room by yourself. Creative and innovative events take place when you put people together in a dorm: playing soccer in the hall, burping contest, rolling people ' s rooms, moving your roommate out in the hall, pig-outs, burn outs, baby powder, shaving cream, water fights, Bible studies, brother-sister dorms . . . The list goes on. The creativity never ends. 34 Dorm Life Top: Nancy Liddawi in a deep concentrating position. Middle center: Brenda Kauffman, Sheri Hitchcock and Jane Young studying together. Tennis 76 Tennis Men ' s Basketball Any sport anywhere is a rollercoaster ride. Bryan is no exception. A season highlighted by thrilling home victories and post-season play qualifications was stained by the loss of senior ace Ron Nyberg in the opening round of the NCCAA tournament. A moment that will shine in everyone ' s mind, though, was the victory over Tennessee Temple here at home — a first in seven years. For the seniors making their final appearances in Summers Gymnasium, it was quite a thrill. Captain and MVP Michael Dean lead the team to a 19-15 record. Above back row (I. to r.) One of their major problems was getting the entire team together for the games. This resulted in learning a lot of lessons in self control. The team was young and contained good players, but because of these setbacks, their season wasn ' t a good one. 90 Softball - Far left top: Coach Tayloe plans strategy.
