At Bryan, a sharpened mind led by the Spirit of God is considered to be one of the most effective tools Christian youth can possess. A pure character, shaped by the hand of God, is a necessity to one who would w alk uprightly before his fel- lows. Leadership, too, is a prime quality present in the great men of God. Finally, potentiality for future usefulness is evi- dent in those who are useful in their col- lege days. JOSEPHINE JENKINS CLAIR BRICKEL ORGANIZATIONS 35 Seated: C. Taber (Secretary), J. Bell, J. BASKETBALL Though, intercollegiate, sports are not yet a part of our activ- ities, Scarlet and Sold basketball and volleyball competition pro- vides exercise and excitement for those participating as players, or as loyal fans. VOLLEYBALL mi, On Field Day, the Scarlets and Golds compete in various athletic contests, some requiring real ath- letic skill and others being of a more entertaining nature. Winners of each contest gain valuable points. At the end of the year ' s Scarlet and Gold competition, the side having the largest score has ts name engraved on the spe- cially-made plaque. AND FIELD DAY I ! • ii? ; FORENSIC AND HUMOROUS PROGRAMS The battle between Scarlets and Golds ncludes Forensic events as well as sports. An afternoon of spirited rivalry is always assured as the best talent from each side participates in dramatic readings and poetry, spelling, impromptus, extempores, book reviews, and orations. Humorous programs, a debate on a current prob- em, and after-dinner speeches complete the year ' s Forensic competition. o A L LIFE BIG DOIN ' S Here and there in our seemingly inces- sant activity, we halt for an evening of relaxation and association with the other members of the family on Bryan Hill.
