In the quiet ofthe early morning, the khaki clad R.O.T.C. color guard raises the red, White, and blue flags of the United States and Texas, and the day be- gins. A small radius of bright colors gathers outside the school doors and intersects with others to form a ring of animated students. Chatter of yesterday's as- signments blends witli that of tomorrowis club meet- ings until the eight o'clock bell scatters the large circle of students to various classrooms, to the library or to the lab. An assembly honoring the National Merit Scholarship finalists or a pep assembly promot- ing a big game changes the schedule from homeroom counseling to one emphasizing entertainment, merit recognition, or sheer spirit. Wlizitever the schedule, Cougar life is encompassed within the larger circle of the school as students make their way from class to class.

Someone in the stands is yelling, 'Who are the Cougars?',' Cougar spirit fills the stadium as the cheerleaders race ahead of the team with the Spirit flag. Green mini-skirts over starched white petticoats add to the panorama of the football game as the Belles perform their traditional twenty high kicks at halftime. Music from the band melds with cheers from the Spirits and the student body to broadcast the enthusiasm of the crowd. The season's tense mo- ments are echoes in dozens of post-game conversa- tions between students and teachersg the individu- al images intertwine into a circle of memories of fall and football and reflect, in spirit, Bryan Adams.
