HI TORY RELATE PA T AND PRESENT Understanding of todayis world problems by com- parison with relevant situations in the past is fostered by the history department. The history curriculum is designed to develop skills in the comprehension of books and news media and in the interpretation of maps and graphs. Emphasis is placed on increasing student ability to separate fact from opinion and to analyze events by organizing and evaluating informa- tion through a problem-solving technique. Teachers use films, periodicals, speakers, and field trips to in- form students on current issues. Courses include the basic American and World History and classes in Latin-American History, Prob- lems in Democracy, English History, Civics, Europe- an History, and Economics, Study in these courses en- courages the student to become a better informed and more interested participant in future world affairs.
