COLLEGE OF OPTOMETRY UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON Are You Interested in a Career of Professional Optometry? WHO CAN QUALIFY? 1. High School Graduates 2. Completed College courses may be applied toward the degree. WHAT IS OPTOMETRY? Optometry is the profession specifically licensed in all 48 states to care for vision, just as dentistry is the pro- fession specifically licensed for dental care. To be eligible in any state for licensing examination to practice Optometry, an Optometrist must be a graduate from an accredited college of Optometry. WHAT TRAINING IS REQUIRED? The six-year course leading to the Doctor of Optometry degree is divided into two years pre-Optometry fbasic sciencel and four years of professional Optometry. About one-fourth of the Optometry course is devoted to the study of the body, eye diseases, and symptoms of other disease revealed in the eyes. Thus the Optometrist is thoroughly trained in detection of diseases so that he can refer patients for whatever other professional care they may require. WHERE DO I APPLY? For further information about the profession of Optometry, write to: Dr. Chas. R. Stewart, Dean North Texas Area Chairman College of Optometry Dr. Jack Morgar.
