Through the last four years the class has lost many of its members, leaving only thirty two seniors to grad uate This group has given much time and service to old B H The class has always been outstanding in many activities A nm ber of them have formed an important part of the band One member, Joan Spence, won second place on an alto solo in Kirksville Jean Eller Pollard received a rating of one on her clarinet solo in the district contest at Kirksville Those in band and glee club have attended the district contests once a year, returning with high ratings The boys have played prominent roles in athletics This year four of the first five were seniors and one of the second five was asenior Those boys on the first team were J D Derieese, Dick Iglehart, Harold Dammann, and Louis LaBonta The second team senior was Bob Seidt, one of the returning war veterans The basketball team won twenty out of twenty nine games played Of the four tournaments which they entered, they won one first and two second place trophies At the annual Brunswick Invitational Tournament, Joan Spence wa Arlene Boynton edited the school newspaper, the Wildcat H1 Lights, dur ing her senior year Louis LaBonta, Dick Iglehart, Margaret Hanna, and June Gibson were other seniors on the newspaper staff Going back to their freshman year, they can remember some of the extra curricular things that they did To get things started, the seniors of that year gave them a nGet Acquaintedu party which cllmaxed freshman initiation week The boys and girls felt well initiated after they had endured that and knew that they could take anything fr m then on as they had gotten everything that was coming uathem Another out standing event was the collecting and selling of newspapers That was quite a job, but they netted enough profit to purchase an S18 75 bond Joan Spence was class president and made a verv good leader for this first ear Mr H ld h y aro Bouc er sponsored the class through that period of trials and tribulations The following year they belonged to the class that knows not, but knows not that it knows not the sophomore class They did not take their studies too seriously that year and many of them have never re covered from that ailment throughout the rest of their school years However, they were unusually active in extra curricular affairs This willingness to work for B H S has always been one of their predomlna ting characteristics They produced a play called Our Girls' which was successful enough to enable them to buy a 837 50 war bond They also had a little money left in their treasury to use for their junior needs Miss Margaret Phillips became their sponsor this year and re malned with them for the rest of their high school career Jim Albrecht was their class president andworked hard tomake the class outstanding They sponsored two all school parties and one or two parties fcr them selves They were especially proud of the fact that Pete Deveese rraoe X the first team in basketball that sophomore year X N he XX x xx X xmtlsxxsixa Sires QM-2 f f fa eye' weyeevx WWW X Xa, 'lf shew SSN, X we x as NAS.
