Zz'- 1 sn Club Candlds The need for good leadership is increas- ingly important. The future of America lies with today's students, who will be tomorrow's leaders. The need to develop strong leaders who will understand the fundamentals of good leadership, the people whom they lead, and the underlying principal of the democracy they lead is the responsibility of our schools today. Not only must our schools develop good leaders, but they must also develop good followers. The natural place for the devel- opment of these leaders and wise followers is in the extracurricular activities of the school. Through successful interaction be- tween leaders and followers students can prepare themselves for leadership and mem- bership in civic organizations they will join after leaving school. Extracurricular activ- ities opens new fields for some students and help others to meet and become friends with many new people. Extracurricular activities, then, are an essential part of the social and mental de- velopment of young people upon whose shoul- ders rests the future of the world. They help to prepare us for the responsibilities we must expect when school is no longer a part of us and we have no guiding hand there whenever we need one. For now, activities serve as a guiding light, steering us into the future.
