Vari- ous scenes around and within our town were chosen as subjects for our divider pages. By doing this we have tried to show how the town's activities are parallel to the school's activities. Remember, as you turn the pages of this, the 1959 Railroader, that the students of Brunswick High School will be the citizens of Brunswick in the near future. However, this is not a teacher's day for there are lessons to pre- pare, papers to be checked, and meetings, meetings, meetings for various purposes. Typical of these is the faculty meeting where the needs of the students, techniques of teaching, the exchange of ideas, methods of improving curriculum, grading systems and its problems, a.nd reports on educational studies are discussed. 6 Gut Principal B. MLM ,gin M My Senior Day, the Spaghetti Dinner, night dances and caroling in the halls at Christmas are only a few of the activities of the Student Council. This governing council of, by, and form the students is led by officers who are elected by the student body the preceding spring. It is composed of two repre- sentatives from each homeroom plus a Junior and a Senior member-at-large. Student Students enjoy dancing in the gym at lunch- time due to the efforts of the Student Council Lunch Time Activities Committee of which Carol Crawford is chairman. Breaking in line and eating early are Moni- tors' privileges but with these privileges come responsibilities. Monitors are on duty all day with special assignments at lunch. The reason the staff feels this way about the new paper is that we have long noticed that our old style newspaper wasvery out-of-date, and that most schools have begun to use this new form. Although the width of the paper has changed, it still allows us to have modern headlines and type, so important to any newspaper. You will notice that in this new of The Whistle for the school year 1958-59, they will probably be sur- prised by the many changes in the paper. He has been instrumental in acquiring athletic equip- ment and in training County Tournament Champs. Coach is a vicious enemy of idleness and when he can't find something to do, which is seldom, he enjoys taking off to a football game. Most of all, says Coach, I like people. Some sound advice from Coach is Study hard, play hard, work hard, and most of all, live by the Golden Rule. Mrs. Nick Miz Nick as Mrs. Ruth Nicholson is known to the students at B.H.S, has been teach- ing our girls' physical education for the past seven years. Although her teams haven't had the thrill of many victories she has taught them leadership and sportsmanship. Away from school we see Mrs. Nick at practically any activity of the Methodist Church. Mrs. Nick is also well known for her delicious devil's food cake and her hot nut buns. Blonde haired, blue eyed Mrs. Nick enjoys playing an electric organ and making hand craft. Gee, what a real problem having so many to choose from. For the first time we realized that we would be graduating. .Zi DECEMBER 19, 1958- We had a warm winter night for the Christmas Dance. All ar- rived early, dressed like movie stars. Music provided by the Maxiettes in the high school gym, decorated with blue lights and silver bells, created a feel- ing of romance. All seniors knew the strain under which they had worked to make their last dance in B.H.S, a success. Senior Diary FEBRUARY 24, 1959- We never realized we had so many capable seniors. Today was Student Day when we as- sumed the duties ofthe faculty. Now we know what it means to be behind the teacher's desk. MARCH 9, 1959-The test we took today will prove helpful when it comes to taking col- lege entrance exams and scholarship tests. Hope all our dreams come true. FEBRUARY 27, 1959- MAY 1, 1959 Time sure is flying! Today we were measured for our caps and gowns. Do you think Iordered the correct size, will they be a true maroon,I wonder with whom I'll be marching, were familiar questions which came to our minds. -What fun it has been working on the play. If everything goes off okay everyone will be surprised. We're glad we invested forty- dollars for lights as we sure needed them. Senior Diary MAY 29 1959 Turning in our books meant missing the fun we shared atB.H.S. doing homework assignments and friendships we enjoyed through the years. MAY 26, 1959-First we were paired off as to height, then the fun began. The boys couldn't keep time to the music and the girls stumbled in their heels. It was hard learning to march in unison until we got the knack of it. We know we will be ready several days before graduation. JUNE 3, 1959- Today ended our six years at Brunswick High School. The fellowship we shared and difficult problems we faced as a class has drawn to a close. Each one is making his break into the world. For some of us this means college, for others, work- ing, and for some, serving in the Armed Forces. Good-bye B.H.S. We will never forget what you have done for us. 4 3 I Q 2 i 3 i s 1 i I 2 l I 2 E E 1 E 1 2 Sue Allgire John Axline Clement Banner Charles Barger Winona Bechtol Frances Carey John Blessley Joseph Clark Class Of '60 Beverly Brady Marian Cooper Nelson Burns Frank Cover Carol Crawford Sandra Cr one CLASS OFFICERS Sylvia Feaster Secretary' Johnny Axline 7 Vice Presidentg,James Stonesifer, President?
