If the grades in all subjects, including French I, which was offered for the first time, averaged to a B,', one was eligible for the National Honor Society. The members participated in Whistle, Glee Club, Madrigal singers, and Var- sity Sports. The most memorable event was the experience of planning for and attending the first night party-dance. Through its organization and guidance, it helped to promote better cooperation and under- standing in all matters, relating to both the stu- dent body and faculty. This organization was composed of students who were capable of assuming leadership in the school activities. Representatives from each home room were elected. Some of the sponsored activities were dances, assemblies, spaghetti dinner, and sending of rep- resentatives to workshops, conventions, and re- gional meetings. hu-A . ,,,N U I 3 fm mm , ,Q 1,5 ?i, m wfQmw w1:,LJ. -3 Qi Wm MN,:m fww w,.f3 ig? gig? ix 15 igyb , an-E if :ms ,WQQG 'b f KHP. After a theme was selected, the Railr0ader's work involved planning, scheduling, and supervising the photography, securing ads, and arranging pictures and copy. After the work was completed and the last shipment sent, the staff waited with anticipation until May when the finished product arrived. WHISTLE Please hand in your article on time! was a frequent expression heard in room 105 as the Whistle staff worked hard to meet the dead-lines. Keeping everyone informed about the events of the year, from fads to evaluation, required hours of toil and thought from members of the Whistle staff, with Kay Cosnell editor-in-chief, and the sponsor, Mrs. Bell. The results justified the labor involved. This group performed at assemblies, Parent Teachers Association meetings, other special occasions and took part in the All-County Chorus, which was held in the spring. ln 1957, Mr. Rephann organized this group to have a balanced chorus to present the special music at Brunswick High School. GLEE CLUB Books were discarded, music was distributed, the accompanist was seated, directions were given, and voices were joined in joyful and harmonious song. This was the general procedure at the Clee Club rehearsals conducted by Mr. Rephann. The performance at the County Musical Festival was the highlight of the year's work. FUTURE TEACHERS OF AMERICA The F.T.A. made visits to various schools and colleges. Through the year the F.T.A. members sponsored the Frostburg State Teachers College dance band and Madrigal singers to stimulate interest in our music department, showed a film entitled A Desk for Billie. invited teachers to speak on various subjects, attended state conventions in Salisbury and Hagerstown, and obtained valuable information in regard to the teaching profession. Some of the projects included making small pieces of fur- niture, doing handicraft work and repairing household equipment. BOYS' HOME EC Cooking and sewing can be fun! This was proved by the Boys' Home Economics Club as they prepared completed meals, baked cookies, and made salads. Eating was the most en- joyable part of the class. No wrinkled, dirty, shirts with buttons miss- ing will be worn by the boys because they have learned to wash, iron, and sew. FIXIT CLUB No need to call in specialists for we had our own repairmen here at Brunswick High School. Repairing broken furniture, putting up maps, and painting were some of the projects of the Fixit Club members. SPORTS ASSISTANTS Field days, intramural games, and tournaments were refereed by the well trained sports as- sistants. SENIOR CHEERLEADERS Much of Brunswick High's school spirit can be credited to the enthusiasm and loyalty of the cheerleaders who led the pep rallies and promoted cheering at all the basketball games. JUNIOR CHEERLEADERS At every JV game these eight girls with Vim and Vigor, cheered the boys on to victory.
