Brunswick defeats Independence 7-6. This statement may not mean a thing to the ordinary reader, but to Brunswick students it meant a great deal. For this game was the highlight of what might have been a very disappointing season. The win over Independ- ence marked our first win in league competi- tion since leaving the Medina County League for the much faster Cuyahoga County Cir- cuit. Also in this game senior Alex Argirakis was named to the Cleveland Press weekly all-star squad. The 1957 season again was a case of too much, too soon. The team showed flashes of greatness, but lacked the depth and experi- ence necessary for consistency. We lost two games due to breaks, Cuyahoga Heights 7-6 and North Royalton 7-0. However, we defi- nitely were outclassed in losses to non-league Buckeye and league rivals Warrensville, Strongsville, Mayfield. Mayfield who for the last three years has been a northeastern Ohio powerhouse rolled to an easy 57-7 win despite what was one of our better played games. Even the Asiatic flu was a factor in a loss. Due to postponements and rescheduling, the Blue Devils were forced to forfeit a game to Brooklyn. All in all, despite the fact Brunswick man- aged only one win, it was a good year high- lighted by some fine individual playing and some very exciting moments. As the Chinese philosopher, Confucius, once said, Wait till next year.

This year competing in the five team Mid- County League for the first time, they fin- ished second behind undefeated Strongsville. The Blue Devils suffered only one loss and that to the champion Mustangs of neighbor- ing Strongsville. Besides defeating every other league rival the Brunswick youngsters scored impressive non-league victories over Medina and Wads- worth. It is very difficult to name standouts on this spirited squad, but the team itself selected the very aggressive lineman Russell Petchler as captain and plunging fullback Larry Lanning as most valuable player. Congratulations, young men, for a job well done. B.H.S. Opp 6 Medina 0 20 Independence 12 6 Strongsville 19 7 Wadsworth 0 7 Brooklyn 6 7 Cuyahoga Hts. fforfeited byb 0
