The play is a sequel to the play Cheaper By The Dozen and is a rollicking com- edy about the Gilbreth family of 12 children. r ' J Can't you imagine what would happen in a fam- ily of 12 children when their mother must go to Europe on lecture tours for six weeks. Fun f'?J really began when the whole family was quaran- tined with chicken pox along with their dear lov- able cousin Leora. The handyman de- cided to make near heer with the chil- dren's homemade root beer and then came the explosion leading to almost catastrophe. The three oldest girls solemnly promised not to have any dates with boys and the boys in the family saw to it that they kept their pledge. The ending, after Mothers arrival. found everyone well and happy-for a change!-and the conclusion was that cessful play under the direction of Mrs. Goodwin and Miss Wood. Our classrooms are crowded and our activities and organizations have been limited because of lack of space. However, plans are under- way to remedy matters. This year the Graf- ton Road School was built and opened to elementary students. Later this year, the contractors will start a new elementary build- ing on Gravel Pit Road near the Sleepy Hol- low development. And, there are to be addi- tions to the high school. Where the high school parking lot northeast of the school now is, there will be a new three-story wing. On the first floor will be a study hall and new library. The second is to be used primari- ly for science and contain a general science room and a biology room. The third floor will be a new home economics deprtment. The new wing will also contain new administra- tion offices. Beyond this wing and onto the present football field will be the new gym. Here we will be able to hold home basketball games and nicer dances. There will be plenty of room for other sports and for our gym classes. Yes, we have much to look forward to in Brunswick in the future. We're going to have a wonderful school so let's be proud of it and support it. For this game was the highlight of what might have been a very disappointing season. The win over Independ- ence marked our first win in league competi- tion since leaving the Medina County League for the much faster Cuyahoga County Cir- cuit. Also in this game senior Alex Argirakis was named to the Cleveland Press weekly all-star squad. The 1957 season again was a case of too much, too soon. The team showed flashes of greatness, but lacked the depth and experi- ence necessary for consistency. We lost two games due to breaks, Cuyahoga Heights 7-6 and North Royalton 7-0. However, we defi- nitely were outclassed in losses to non-league Buckeye and league rivals Warrensville, Strongsville, Mayfield. Mayfield who for the last three years has been a northeastern Ohio powerhouse rolled to an easy 57-7 win despite what was one of our better played games. Even the Asiatic flu was a factor in a loss. Due to postponements and rescheduling, the Blue Devils were forced to forfeit a game to Brooklyn. All in all, despite the fact Brunswick man- aged only one win, it was a good year high- lighted by some fine individual playing and some very exciting moments. As the Chinese philosopher, Confucius, once said, Wait till next year. get 9 it x 'ml .f Front Row, Left to Right: J. Cap, F. Gilhousen, R. Shepherd, N. Berendsen, A. Huth- maker, P. Becker, D. This year competing in the five team Mid- County League for the first time, they fin- ished second behind undefeated Strongsville. The Blue Devils suffered only one loss and that to the champion Mustangs of neighbor- ing Strongsville. Besides defeating every other league rival the Brunswick youngsters scored impressive non-league victories over Medina and Wads- worth. It is very difficult to name standouts on this spirited squad, but the team itself selected the very aggressive lineman Russell Petchler as captain and plunging fullback Larry Lanning as most valuable player. Congratulations, young men, for a job well done. B.H.S. Opp 6 Medina 0 20 Independence 12 6 Strongsville 19 7 Wadsworth 0 7 Brooklyn 6 7 Cuyahoga Hts. fforfeited byb 0 The Brunswick Blue Devil cagers of 1957-58 com- piled an unimpressive 5-122 record. However, there is more to the story than just the won-lost record. The blue and white basketballers showed flashes through the season of the greatness predicted for them by many, but they were never able to maintain the consistency needed. Coach Platz rotated a seven man first unit com- posed of four seniors and three juniors. Of this group only seniors Dick Mueller and Alex Argirakis and junior Dick Bouman were lettermen. The others were Gene Katona and Chet liwald who were seniors and juniors Jim McMillan and Bernie Palmatier. These last two were promoted at mid-year from the reserve squad and showed considerable promise. Playing again in the Medina County League, Brunswick finished in the lower half of the stand- ings. The high light of the year came, however, in the tournament. This year was Brunswick's debut into the AA athletic ranks, and their showing was not one to be ashamed of. Drawing Fairview as their opponent at the Baldwin-Wallace Field House. the locals for three periods threatened to upset their favored rivals. But, the lack of bench strength hurt in the final period. Another factor on the debit side was the lack of a home floor. Even though we played on the excellent Buckeye court, the basketball team never felt as if they belonged. Possibly. the new building program which includes a modern ,fzymnasium will give added incentive to future Brunswick basketball teams. arsit Baskc 1 Q .Tk , A. iff? .Q fx, First Row: Martin Polakowski, Alan Hamer, John Sestina, Nolan Baisch, Jerry Buy, Paul Sestina. This team, coached by Mr. Slnul- bach, was sprinkled generously with promis- ing freshmen and sophomores. Playing usu- ally in the preliminary games they compiled a 10-4 record. At season's end Coach Platz took a fresh- man team composed largely of reserve mem- bers and competed in the Buckeye invita- tional tournament. In this tournament they were edged out in the final game. These reserves should add luster to the future Blue Devil basketball records. - Strong Reserves B.H.S. Coached by William Pearce these seventh and eighth graders played in two leagues, the very fast Cuya- hoga County League and the traditional Medina County circuit. The youngsters easily won their division and toppled Homer very handily in the championship game. Besides their champion- ship showing in the Medina League, they also posted very impressive victories in the Cuyahoga County League. These junior high cagers distinguished themselves as promising athletes. We hate to sound overly optimistic, but the next four years look promising.
