56 and 57 BASKETBALL SEASON Basketball is here again and we have four lettermen back. Our first encounter was with Augusta and we beat them 73 -34. Leggett led the scoring with 25 points, Colombo added 14. ln our next ame we lost a heartbreaker at Baltic, 74-73. DeMattio led Midvale with 20 points. Leggett was next with 17 For our thirg game we defeated Tusky 78-46. Leggett and Colombo tallied 16 apiece. We then traveled to Strasburg to come home on the short end of a 62-55 score. Colombo was high with 16. ln our next game we defeated Dundee 74-52. Colombo led the way with 12 points, Krocker followed with 10. We now faced the lndians of Gnaden and were beaten 66-64. DeMattia netted 16, Colombo 14. Tuscarawas Valley was next and we lost a dis uted decision 74- 73. Colombo had 25 points, Leg tt 18. We then traveled to Part Washington only to be turned back 72- 71. Leggett potted 26, Wolfe aided 14. Next was Stonecreek who defeated us 69-58. Colombo was high with 2 , Leggett and Wolfe added 10. We thought it was time for a win and so we defeated West Lafayette 90-61. Colombo blazed the nets with 42 points, Leggett added 18. Tusky invaded us next and we dumped them 89-33. Leggett was high with 20, Belknap added 16. Krocker and Colombo contributed 15 apiece. We next beat Newcomerstown 69-45 in a benefit game for polio. Colombo hit for 20, Russ Hobart added 14. Conotton Valley came to Midvale looking for a victory, but were turned back 83-65. Colombo potted 27, Leggett followed with 26. Conotton Valley invaded next and we defeated them 83-65. Colombo hit for 27 points while Leggett netted 26. We then traveled to Gnaden, and in a thrilling qame all the way, we were defeated 87-81. Leggett blazed the nets for 34 points, Colombo and Krocker had 20 and 17 respectively. Then the Strasburg tigers came to town and went home victorious as they defeated us 67-64. Leggett and Colombo hit for 17 apiece, Wolfe added 14 points. fContinued on page 7U 56 FOOTBALL SEASON Well, here it is again, football. With 13 returning lettermen, we started out with 40 players. When the preview rolled around we were down to 33 players. Midvale had drawn Newcomerstown and were eagerly waiting the opening kick-off. It came on September 7 and we managed to come out with a 6-2 victory. Fulp scored the lone touchdown on a 15yard run. Our next encounter was at Brewster. We came home on the short end of a 33-14 score. Leggett scored on a 6 yard sneak and passed to Colletti for Swards and a touchdown. Benedum booted both extra points. ln our next game we trounced est Lafayette 32-0. Colletti led the attack with 3 touchdowns. Leggett scored on a 14 yard run, and Benedum scared from 5 yards out. Benedum also booted the extra points. ' ln our next game with Dennison, overconfidence played a big part in our 25-0 loss, our worst game of the season. Against Strasburg, we splashed out a 19-6 win. Leggett passed 41 yards to Wolfe for first touchdown, and plunged 1yard for another. Colletti went 7 yards for final score, and plunged for point after. ln our sixth game we nipped Tusky 13-7. Colletti score both touchdowns on runs of 82 and 61 yards, and ran the extra point. I We then traveled to Malvern and were victorious b the pleasing score of 40-2. Leggett had 3 touchdowns, one on an intercepted pass for 55 yards, 22 and 42 ard runs. Fufp scored on runs of 70 and 20 yards. Tollotti scored on a5 yard plunge The seniors playing their last High School Football game led the Devils to a 39-0 rout over Marlboro. Colletti plunged 5 yards, and ran 40 yards for touchdowns. Leggett ran 30 yards and plunged 1 yard for scores. Benedum scored on a 7 yard run, and Leggett completed a pass to Wolfe, covering 76 yards to end the scoring.
