Frank Walton, who departed this life on the sixth day of October, 1958. A man of untiring energies for the cause of edu- cation and the betterment of facilities and opportunities for the youth of our county (Irrespective of color or creed), Mr. Walton gave unselfishly of his time and labor far beyond the required limits. “Do it, or die trying !” were the words by which he lived — and died. Truly, he gave himself for us that we might have the educational advantages to help us in our growth and development into responsible young people and mature worth-while citizens. The example of his life is an inspiration to all who come within the radius of his enthusiasm, courage and conviction for the pur- pose and provision of free public education; his personality em- bodied all of the elements of a Christian gentleman; his imprint will ever remain on the minds and the characters of the people of this community. His whole life fulfilled the Biblical requirements — he did justly, he loved mercy, and he walked humbly with his God. ADMINISTRATION WILLIAM H. W ■ . j ' ji ■ VjU BRUNSWICK UNDEFEATED 7-0-1 WIN RUNNER-UP TROPHY After electing Booney Pulley, Carl Malone, and Lonnie House Tri Captains, the surprising Bulldogs dumped Victoria, pre-season picks to win the crown, 20-7 at home. Again playing for a large home crowd, the Bulldogs prevailed 20-0 over last year’s champs, Crewe. On their first trip away from home the Bulldogs proved better than the Barons and the mud, coming home from Bluestone with a 19-6 victory. The game with arch-rival Emporia will always be remembered as making or breaking the season. Spirits were high and for many people the season was “made” by a thumping 34-7 victory. But, it wasn’t “made” for the team. They knew Farmville would be tough. The Bulldogs had to settle for a tie at 19-19. The Homecoming game with Amelia pitted two undefeated teams but when the game ended, only the Bulldogs were undefeated, registering their second shut out 21-0. The last two games were played against teams that hadn’t won a game all year and the Bulldogs won hardily over Blackstone, 42-0, and Park View 37-0. The Bulldog’s 7-0-1 record was second only to Randolph-Henry’s 7-0-0. This was the most successful season by far in the short history of Brunswick High School. The Bulldogs had many things for which to be proud. They scored 212 points against only 39 for the op- position, which was less than one touchdown per game. The Bulldogs had four shut outs and the dis- trict’s second highest scorer in Carl Malone. This season would not have been a success without the grand support of the students led by the band with their half time performances. Behind al l good teams are good coaches. Coach Pinchbeck and his assistant. Coach Harrison gave us the leadership and instruction for a successful season. During the season they lost only two games and thus earned a chance to participate in the tournament for the Championship Trophy. The first night of the tournament the B.H.S. girls came from behind during the closing minutes to defeat Randolph-Henry, a team that had not lost a tournament in many years. On the final night, B.H.S. faced the undefeated Emporia team. In a hard fought possession-type game Brunswick came from behind to win during the last five seconds 24-23. To have such a championship season required hard practice, team work, and the interest and support of players and spectators. Without this support, the interest of the girls, the desire of work for the good of the team and excellent coaching by Mr. Manson, the girl’s team could not have been so suc- cessful. Detail plans are begun by the Monogram Club weeks in advance to insure success of the festivities. There is the annual nomination of the members of the court by the classes and the election by the students of the Homecoming Queen. Frantically the students work long hours brainstorming and barnstorming for ideas, trucks, chicken wire, and assorted items in order to get floats ready for the parade. The pep rally, barn fire, and parade not only serve to welcome back alumni and entertain spectators, but also to arouse the competi- tive spirit for the “Big Football Game.” Climaxing the day’s program, this year for the first time in over a decade, the spirited Bulldog emerged victorious over Amelia. The day was completed with a dance given in honor of the Queen and her court at the high school. AlunHl If hI 2nd Prize — Beta Club 1st Prize — Latin Club Junior Class 3rd Prize — F.F.A.
