ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: Engineering is a vital aspect of any ship ' s organization, be she a combatant, such as BRUMBY, or one of the many support ships of the fleet. The engineers operate and maintain such systems as the ship ' s propul- sion system, interior communications systems, and hydraulic systems. Engineering is also respon- sible for taking on fuel, making fresh water for the crew and the boilers, and providing heat and air conditioning. BRUMBY ' s Engineering Department is headed by Lieutenant S. A. BOYCE.
