9 'k 'AF' f ...ff bu,- 1 'egg +L In the old fashioned view of life, each individual went through a period of prep rat on, which we called education, which was followed by a distinct and sep rate per'od of life work When such a pe son left school he was that to have ffnlshed his education and to have begun the ser'ous business of his l1fe's work I think we have all ome o see how ar t Fic'al was this distinction and how evil were many of the results which followed from it We now understand that well developed men and women should allow he r education to cease only when the r life ceases We no longer attempt tc separate our years into two periods, one of training and the other of work We hold rather that work should begin in the period of training and that trainlng should continue throughout the per'od of active training Thus it is that the modern up to date school per mlts its students to live an adult life as far as possible each day f his school l fe The American High School is somet'mes ca led HThe Peoples Universityn The name 's appropr ate because America is the only country in the world that at tempts to g ve a High School education to every boy and girl that is capable of receiving it s s as t should be n a democracy In America the success of government ls dependent upon the educa tion of all the people The fundamentals of ga'n1ng an ed ucatlon, reading wr ting, and arithmetic are taught the elementary school Through the use of hese tool subjects the high school student mav become ac quainted w th great f elds of knowledge and make a beginning in learning to think for himself An education sholld make each person wish to hav For himself those things which are good for h m and at the same time best for all other people How well Brownstown High School measures up to this goal can be determlned in only one way the manner in Vhlcn you, the stu dents, refle your tra nlng af er you are out of school
