K'-it 4' :,:L ':1 R, 01' EWOI' These have been happy yearsg for most of us, the happiest and most memorable years of our lives. Together we have worked and planned for our future. Now the time has come when we must make those plans a reality. We have re- ceived our education in a Catholic atmosphere, and been indoctrinated with Catholic ideas and ideals. Let us now step forward into a world of confusion and chaos, with a steady confidence born of our knowledge of the truth. . When in later years we leaf through this book, may we recapture the memorable years we have enjoyed at Trinity. . , , , , ,. .7511 -' 1.x I' in 71. 'V . D 11 Th p Md 1 S H1 R13 SC Gfrclzbislzop Qyafslz Words are superfluous in expressing our admiration for our esteemed archbishop. To add glory to the name would be like adding light to the sun. Archbishop Walsh needs no testi- monials to illumine his virtues. As we seek his monuments We have but to look around the archdiocese committed to his zeal- ous care. Every church spire is a symbol of our archbishop's administrative genius. Every parochial school sings of his love of intellectual improvement. In toto, Archbishop Walsh is the pcrsoniflcation of the spirit of militant Catholicism. Che Gazfbedraf Under the skillful hand of Archbishop Walsh the Arch dioceses of Newark has flourished. Churches have sprung up. An unparalleled Catholic school system has been established. Now, as a sort of culmination point to the administrative pro- gress the Archbishop wishes a Cathedral to be built in the heart of the diocese of Newark. This cathedral is not to enhance the reputation of our venerable Archbishop, but to further the cause of the Lord. We should all get behind Arch- bishop Walsh in this, his greatest of building attempts. Mrnlzrsiqzzol' guqmze QBurfce, To have felt your spiritual guidance, enjoyed your generous benefits, and profited by your kindly advice are privileges to be cherished always. Our Monsignor. our Pastor, and our Leader ff we the class of '51 are inspired to live up to your expectations. ff' .vp ,X w, at , o . ,ya ffff, My gfofy Crinify Ghurcfz Holy Trinity Church, indeed a beautiful example of Roman architecture, provides a royal palace for our Lord. A familiar spot to all those who attend the school, the church is often visited by the pupils. Even outsiders and passers-by marvel at this sight of beauty which is outstandingly magnificent. Our beloved pastor and clergy have always gone overboard in their efforts to please the parishioners and students. To them we will always be deeply indebted. The church, as the name suggests, is in honor of the Blessed Trinity, and is a consoling place to go to forget our worldly troubles and spend some time speaking to God. The sanctuary is immaculately kept for the services which are carried out in strict rubrical order. As we continue to travel the highway of life into the future, let us not forget our Holy Trinity Church where we have spent many awe-inspiring hours, and have received many wonderful blessings. FATHER BURKE Our third year Religion teacher is well liked and respected by all the students. He is always ready to begin class with a joke and has taught us a kind of Religion We will never forget. This is exemplified by the island that we visited every morning third and fourth period. He has been around Trinity quite a few years always bettering the interests of the student body. Father Burke has always been ready to help us understand more clearly the doctrines of our religion. His wit and good humor has lightened up the Religion Classes with a ray of good cheer, He al- ways is Waiting and ready to give some sound advice or a kind word. to comfort some perturbed student. Let us extend our hearty appreciation to him, for preparing us to face the road of life , and to live our religion daily, according to his teaching. FATHER HENNESSEY FATHER LAIN G Although Father Giella has been with us but a short time, already he occupies a warm spot in our hearts. Father Giella teaches the Sophomore Religion, but they are not the only ones who benefit from his wisdom. His kindly manner and friendli- ness have been advantageous to us all. May he remain at Trinity AD MULTOS ANNOSI' We were Father's first class in Trinity. He will never know how much we appre- ciated his gentle manner in and out of class. We, the Graduating class, are losing a great inspiration and example in Father Laing. FATHER GIELLA 4- X 2 s 2 1 S A ? if Mr 5x . She would spend a whole day with us. Every morning from her post in the hall her face smiled a kind- ly hello as we crowded down the corridor. In the classrooms too, her serious eyes Watched over us. At night, during play or a concert, her radiant presence gave confidence to those who were nervousg at a dance she gave joy to any who would pause to nod at her statue. Yes, every minute she was with us. In those days we always had a statue before us to talk to-to remind us. In remembrance, let us now carry her image in our hearts. I prostrate myself at the foot of thy altar, Immaculate Mary, to express the ardent desire of my heart to be admitted into the number of thy privileged children. To meet this great favor, I take in thy presence. O tender Mother, the firm resolution to laboring with all my strength to become by my piety, charity, and obedi- ence the edification of my companions and to acquire the virtues which thou request of thy children. ANNUAL RETREAT ,, .AX if ff! ,ef-'WM I 4 . .1- E l Remember that glorious week when Father Finley rescued us from the every day drudgery and invited us to listen to his talks, delightful and inspiring as they Were. Do you remember his Words, and the ideas he shared With us? . . . to spend time for God in proportion to the time We spend for ourselves . . . to learn today, how to form our habits for they will be part of us for our entire life Remember these thoughts and remember too the person who lent us these treasures. However, since her recovery, Sister Helen has joined forces with Mrs. Sukro, and through their combined efforts, we have been coached to the peak that is necessary, to take part in the Annual Demonstration Mass in Seton Hall on May 30th. We may not always seem to have fully appreciated the precious time you have given up to so painstakingly train our voices, so, we write this now to express our deepest thanks and to beg God's most abundant bless- ings on two such inspiring leaders as you have been. Earle Sporfs Living up to its record of former years, our basketball team came up with another fine season. In addition to an outstanding record of 15 wins and 4 losses, the highlight of the season was winning the Bergen County Jamboree. Each Jamboree game was a thriller, beginning with the Bogota game which ended 52-37 and terminating with a surprising victory over a heavily favored and much taller team from North Arlington of 37-27. The team was the recipient of a beautiful trophy and each member received a gold basketball. The victory was most satisfactory because Trinity's team competed with and won over larger schools in the public school class. Looking back through the season there are other highlights which proved the ability of this year's personnel. Probably the one thing that stands out most was having the school scoring record broken by our own Dick Onderdonk when he scored 32 points against Saint Lukes. Dick aver- aged 17 points per game in leading the team with a total of 257 for the year. This record compiled by Dick did not go unnoticed throughout the county and state for he was elected unanimously to both All-County and All- State Teams. This was not the extent of honors bestowed on our players for both Dave Sinnott, scrappy little forward, and Don Thompson, steady guard, were given honorable mention in the All-County voting. Probably the most under-rated ballplayer on the squad was Charlie Gillen who played a steady defensive and offensive game throughout the season. Rounding out the squad were Don Conway, Pete O'Neill, Aiden Kenny and Tom Cull. The baseball team got off on the right foot by winning its initial game 9-4 from St. Bonaventure-'s of Paterson. With the return of 13 letter- men both coaches have high hopes for a very successful season. The team is composed of Dave Sinnott at shortstop, Eddie Carratura in right field, Walt Roeder in center field, Dick Onderdonk at second base, Archie O'Keefe at third, Don Conway, catchingg James Murphy in left field and Aiden Kenny at first base. The pitching on which the team bases its hopes for the league championship will be handled by Charlie Gillen, Jerry Pramuk, Tom Cull, and Richie Hahn. Rounding out the varsity team are the capable players Gene Reagen, Don Greene, Don Brennantutility out- fielders and John Clark utility infielder. With this personnel we stand to better last year's record of five wins and six losses. To our fans is due much credit for their activity and loyalty. To our cheerleaders for their co-operation and co-ordination goes the gratitude of the team and school. This year's squad was composed of co-captains Ann Saul and Midge Haflinger, Seniors Barbara McCarthy, Joan Phelan, Carol Young, Bernice Holligan, and Juniors Patty Giblin and Helen Heffernan. The activities started early in the year with softballg basketball and volley ballg these activities were carried on throughout the entire season. We also enjoyed square-dancing.
