Although there are more members finishing, not all of the beginning class are with us now. Those who began at Brownsburg and are finishing together are: Dick Burns. John Babbitt, Beverly Spangler, Hal Hufford, Richard Bollman, John Leveritt, Don Ray. Ann Pickett, Peggy Linkmeyer, Wayne Cassidy, Judy Willianis, Nancy Smith. Tom Clossey, Jim Phillips, Tom Hufford, Wiley,Davis and Donna Agan. Remember how solemn everything seemed? It didn't take long to get acquaintedg then what a difference! Mrs. Thorpe was our teacher. A lot of us had more than one '4turn in the little red chairs,,7 but it was fun when we got to be Brownies. Then we were promoted to the second grade. Mrs. Haase, our teacher, seemed to think we never could be quiet when we went to the cloakroomg consequently, we stayed after school. Maybe that was the beginning of our notorious career. Hal never has forgotten the D he got in citizenship for sticking Nancy with a pin! That year Joe Walker, Gene Ennis, and four who have since left us joined our class. Thanks to Mrs. Garner, our third grade teacher, we learned our colors better, even if it was only to mark on the blackboard the time we misbehaved. Here we picked up Beverly Kelsheimer, Jimmy Smith, Joan Timmons, Barry Kelly and Kay Davie. Jimmy is no longer with us. Kay didn,t know whether she was going to get to stay until she convinced Mrs. Garner her impetigo wasn't what it was. Before we knew it, we were in the fourth grade with Mrs. Marvel as our teacher. If teachers set the example, then we should have learned that the old saying, An apple a day keeps the doctor away, is very good advice. Several joined us but are gone now. Going on to the fifth grade where We had our first experience with different teachers for every subject. Mrs. Highshue was our home room teacher. All the girls had a crush on Mr. Bedell, our history teacher. It might have been interesting if there hadn't been a Mrs. Bedell. That year Bob Benge and two other boys were our new members. Mrs. Herdrich was our home room teacher in the sixth grade. Betty Alexander and Linda Eller joined our class. We didrft get to see much of Bettyis face at first because she was so bashful. A little l?l changed now! Even our writing classes were a riot that year! All in all, our last year in grade school was quite a year! Something happened to high school the next year. When the whirlwind subsided EVERYONE knew the class of '56 was in junior high. Mr. May had quite a time with 1' Class of 1956 us in English 7, between Judy doctoring Peggy's poison ivy in class and the boys throwing the girls' billfolds out the window. Mrs. Smith must have been stunned when she found out we had elected her our class sponsor. Here we picked up Jane Schlagenhauf, Barbara Mouron, Delbert Duncan and Harlene Newcom. We later lost Jane and Delbert. Mrs. Irish took over in our eighth grade. For our class party, we went on a wiener roast and hayride. How about another like that Betty??? Barb, how do burnt marsh- mallows taste? Norma Mitchell, Barbara Martin. Kent Davis, Kenny Phillips, Neil Linn, Delores Darland, Loretta and Don Vance, Lloyd McCor1nick, Glen Montgomery and Don Allen joined our class. The excitement of high school had worn off by the time we got to be freshmen. We elected Mrs. Irish our sponsor again. Our 26 members were: Alma Kiger, Nadine Copeland, Dona Hollaway. Kay Herring, Kenny Allen, Bill Brown, Winson Smith, Don Scott, Mac Moore, Jim Sering. Bob Rust. Bob Brown, Mildred English, Dorothy Carter, Mary Jane Brunes, Janet Haycox, Glen Eaton, Glen Heavilin, Patty Larkin, Sandra Wilson. Margarite Whyttenbach, Judy Selch, Sandra Becker, Barbara Clark and Herb Shelm. The last seven have since moved on. Mrs. Parker. the truant officer, tried to tell the six girls who played hooky why they shouldn't haveg it didn't work. We finally got to be sophomores and had Mr. Greene as our sponsor. The class party might not have been exciting but everyone surely heard about the wreck that Peggy, Ann, Larry and John had after the party. No serious injuries though. Don Hensley. Barbara Stephens, Larry Randle and Howard Thomas joined our class that year. Kenny Martin and Chuck Arnold came and went. Mrs. Smith was our sponsor again for our junior year. We had a lot of fun putting on our play, Off the Track. We FINALLY decided our class colors and flower and motto should be black and white with pink carnations and The door to success is marked PUSH. Connie Boltz and Don Waterman were our new members. We said good-bye to Barbara Stephens who was moving during the summer. THE YEAR was here at long last! Most of us weren't so glad though. Mr. Whit- tinghill was our sponsor. We all put a lot of effort into the play, but had a lot of fun, too. The trip was the big thing that year. New York will never be the ssfme. Even though there was quite a discussion over whether we would wear caps and gowns or formals and dinner jackets, graduation was still unforgettable. And so ended our twelve memorable years as students of Brownsburg Public Schools. Our Prophec Just think. it has been twenty years since I grad- uated from B.H.S. and it seems like only yesterday. I am on my way to New York to visit one of my dearest friends. Beverly Spangler. who is an exotic dancer in the harem of King Farouk. I met Bev at the station and guess whom I saw! Barbara Mouron. who just flew in from Hollywood. where she makes wigs for bald movie stars. Barbara told us that Dick Burns didn't turn out very well: he bootlegs Chanel No. 5. As we walked out of the station we saw. much to our surprise, Mildred English. campaigning for president of Blah Blah Blah. Unlimited. We then boarded a sightseeing bus and met Bob Brown. its driver. As we rounded a corner I recognized Nadine Copeland selling flowers from a sidewalk cart. with Connie Boltz as her helper. When we reached the hotel. I bought a magazine and discovered that Judy Williams is now writing a feature called 6'Your Garden and You for the Will- nevergrow Seed Company. As I entered my room. the telephone rang. It was Harlene Newcom wanting me to have dinner with her. She told me that she is now a wine taster. an interesting occupation, I had a few hours before dinner so I turned on TV and found that Beverly Kelsheimer has her own TV show on homemaking called g'Can't Sew a Stitch. After it was over I switched channels and found that Bill Brown has replaced Jack Webb as Sgt. Joe Friday. As he had always been the quiet type, the part fitted him very well. Harlene picked me up for dinner and on our way. we met Norma Mitchell. who is manufacturing uncurling irons. la. ,E 4 v 1' While we were eating, who should come up but Neil Linn who is now an FBI agent trying to dis- cover how certain shady characters smuggle false teeth. We found Kenny Phillips and Larry Randle eating at the next table. We learned that Kenny is a pilot for PLOP airlines, and Larry is a general in the Marines. They told us that Winson Smith makes radiators for condemned buildings, and that Tom Clossey is the Dairy Queen King. After dinner we went to the show and in the news- reel we saw Donna Agan. who is a lady daredevil driver. Afterwards we went to a restaurant for a snack and found Alma Kiger. Delores Darland. and Joan Timmons. Alma is our goodwill ambassador to Inner Mongolia. Delores and Joan are happily mar- ried and have nice families. They said that Barry Kelley is a hermit berry picker. and Don Waterman manufactures elevator shoes. The next day I walked down to the lobby and met Barbara Martin and Betty Alexander. They told me that Barbara now runs a home for old ladies and Betty trains turtles. Janet Haycox is a dress de- signer-for dolls. Ann Pickett also designs. aprons for dishwashers. Linda Eller manufactures pencils with no leads for people with exceptionally dark secrets. When I got back to my room I decided to call Loretta Vance. a pretzel twister for the Curley Q Pretzel Co. We decided to meet for lunch. On my way to the restaurant I saw a large crowd and went to investigate. Don Scott was asleep in a store win- dow. He now holds the world's record for the long- est sleeper fother than Rip van Winklejg he slept for 1293 hours and 35 minutes. making him late again. He represents the Kantrest Mattress Company. 'max for 1976 Loretta was waiting at the restaurant with soooo much to tell me about our fellow classmates. It seems her brother Don. joe Walker. Don Hensley. John Leveritt. Jim Phillips, and Bob Rust are all partners in a detective agency known as the Black Shirts. Howard Thomas and Mary Jane Brunes work in a circus: he is a strong man and she is the tall lady. It seems that Jerry Giles really hit New York with a bang-he is an explosives expert. Our conversation was suddenly interrupted by the announcement that the guest speaker would now talk. He turned out to be Richard Bollman talking on Einstein's theory of revelations. Next on the pro- gram was a demonstration on glass blowing given by Kay Herring. a very famous glass blower making such useful items as mustache cups and false eye glasses. After the demonstration Kay came over and said hello. She told us that Dona Hollaway has made quite a name for herself in the field of art. She sells pictures to put on postcards. She said that Tom Hufford is selling refrigerators to Eskimos. It seems that Kenny Allen has really gone far in the field of baseball-he manufactures airfilled base- balls. Suddenly the toastmaster said that there were some celebrities in the audience. They turned out to be Hal Hufford. who has taken the place of Liberace in the hearts of all the women: Mac Moore. a distinguished lecturer on the subject of What comes first. the chicken or the egg'? : and Bob Benge. who is writing a book on the controversial subject of Why doesn't water walk instead of run? On our way out we saw Kay Davie. who is run- ning a school for model husbands. commonly called Henpecked. As we were walking down the street. who should appear before us but Gene Ennis. an interior decorator for sewers. He told us that .lim Sering designs jet-propelled cars. He said that Don Ray is quite an accomplished inventorg he has in- vented such useful things as the gallon beer can and the popular pack with forty cigarettes. I left Loretta at the hotel and decided to spend a quiet evening there but my plans were soon changed when Dorothy Carter called and asked me to her house for dinner with a few of my class- mates. When I arrived at Dorothy's. the strange decorations sort of got me until I learned that she is now a cosmetic consultant to the Ubangi tribe. Among those attending the party were lack Bab- bitt. coach of the Hedheads: Wayne Cassidy. who makes the animal jet economy run from Mars to the moon--a very interesting run. so he tells me. Kent Davis is really quite a success-he is a prosperous banker in Siberia. Peggy Linkmeyer leads safaris in Africa. Lloyd McCormick married Linda: they run a trailer camp for run-down trailers. Glen Heavilin is a tax collector: need I tell you he is no longer a very popular person. Wiley Davis is the chief pickle sampler of Dills. Inc.. Pickles for Every Occasion. Glen Eaton trains boxers and Nancy Smith is a successful manufacturer of rocks for rock gardens. When I got home after my thrilling visit and seeing all my old classmates. need I tell you how very proud and happy I was to be able to say. I graduated from Brownsburg High School. Class of 1956 ? Memories of friends. teachers. classes, Clubs. and activities will spring to life as we recog- nize familiar faces and see again the sights that we knew so many years. To you who may glance through this book but have not attended Brownsburg High School. it might seem like just another yearbook: how- ever. to those of us who have worked and played. laughed and cried here, this book is a treasure bringing memories of days that we can never live again.
