None of us will forget the countless times Helen has written us late passes, loaned us tape, scissors, staplers, and done little jobs that mean so much. So Helen, we hope by dedicat- ing this annual to you, it will partially show our appreciation of all the things youfve done for us. We the concerned, clever, and witty Seniors, who made wills do hereby give NOT to those lucky few who will be left behind, BUT to our fellow Seniors who find it above their mental capacity to compose a Last Will and Testament, our inate ability to express our thoughts openly and not be ashamed! 14 BOY AND GIRL STATERS 8TH GRADE HONOR STUDENTS Mary Sykora, Don Deyo Sarah Kaits, leff LeClair HONOR STUDENTS The Browns Valley School was shocked in the year of 1965 when forty clean cut, well respected, and very well behaved kids came marching quietly into Kindergarten. As you well know, that was the class of 1977. By the way, we upheld our name as the best bunch of angels that ever entered the Browns Valley Schools. First grade came all too soon. We had to leave our afternoon naps and lunch. (Nobody really cared about the lunch because the cookies were leftovers from Home Ec. class). Everyone managed to get the letters of the alpha- bet down pat by May, though. The highlight of our Second grade year was Butch coming to school in a pair of shorts on his first day here. Back then NO boy wore shorts to school. But we soon forgave him and moved on. Third grade saw us good kids tied to our chairs. Some say they still have rope burn. We still can't forget that private little room of Mrs. Herbergs. In our fourth grade year many of us had the great privilage of writing out of the dictionary and no one wanted to miss Mr. Goodharts one and only paddlewheel. Our coordination was tested in fifth grade when we got to change rooms for classes. And guess what! There were only about half of us that got lost between classes! Well, we all managed to get the hang of it before the year ended. We also can't forget the pep talk on the length of our dresses. Right Girls!!!!!!!!! Sixth grade went by fast while we listened about trips and Greek Mythology. Also, Corey came and caught the eyes of just about all the girls. He was the man of our class that year. Our seventh grade year came in with a bang. Especially when our class party was smoke bombed. . . Also, Sheryl expressed her opinion in a certain English class. She has learned to argue now not throw up. We also got the chance to choose our own officers. We chose Corey Grubb as President, Leona Reinart as Vice President, Jo Ziemer was our Secretary and Treasurer, and Don Deyo was our Student Council representative. Our advisor was Miss Christopherson. Eighth grade was something else. We got to try our hand at first aid. We were told to just leave the person in need of first aid, for he would be better off injured than to chance our treatment. One person in our class tried making chocolate chip cookies. The Home Ec. teacher thought they were good but the Ex Lax was a tid bit bitter. No one ever quite figured out who did that. Our advisors were Mr. Griffith and Miss Salmela. We were lead by President Audrey Gill, Vice President Sheryl Ward, Secretary Kim Ingemunson Hanson, Treasurer Jo Hoffman and our Student Council representative was Jo Ziemer. Our class float was the second prize winner that year. THE WAY WE WERE Bottom Row: L To R: T. LeClair, F. Hammersten, G. Stadler, D. Kaufman, J. Kuschel, D. Sykora, J. Lamers, D. Papka, L. Krone, A. Pres., Mr. Thom as-Advisor, Mr. McMorrow-Advisor, Kneeling: Jan Ziemer-Pres., John Miller-Secretary, Leona Reinart-Treasurer The highlight of our 9th grade year was picking our attendants for Homecoming. We chose Butch Colago and Mary Serocki to represent our class. We always managed to have our milk and cookie parties near the church. We were known as the most religious class B. V. had ever known. They don't know it, but we still are. We chose Don Deyo for President, Jeff Mollenhoff, for Vice-President, Jan Ziemer for Secretary-Treasurer, and Butch Colago for Student Council. Our float won 1st place this year. During the 10th grade we were led by President-Kim Ingemunson Hansen, Vice-President- John Miller, Secretary- Kris Baer, and Treasurer- Jo Hoffman. Our attendants were John Miller and Kris Baer. Terry LeClair and Mary Serocki were chosen Host and Hostess for the Jr.-Sr. Prom. Everyone remembers, oh so well, Mr. Bailey, his monkey, parrot, and disecting. Our float got 1st place once again. At last, our Junior year, boy were we happy! We managed to put on our Junior class play which was Spoon River Anthology directed by Mrs. Zacharias. Then came our Prom. Our theme was Saturday in the Park. We chose Tam Haanen and Jeff Paulson as Host and Hostess. The band was Cookies. We were lead through that year of hard work by President Don Deyo, Vice President Terry LeClair, Secre- tary-Treasurer Craig Griebal, and our Student Council members were Mary Serocki and Greg Haanen. Our Homecoming attendants were Jan Ziemer and Terry LeClair. Our Class float won another first place. Onward James to a new year. Now as we are in our Senior year we are lead by President Jan Ziemer, Vice President Mark LeClair, Secretary John Miller, Treasurer Leona Rienart, and our Student Council representatives are Ann Christensen and Mary Serocki. Our Homecoming candidates for king were Corey Grubb, John Miller, and Don Deyo. The candidates for queen were Jo Ziemer, Jan Ziemer, and Kris Baer. John and Jo were chosen to reign over the festivities. Our class flower is the Carnation, our class colors are Peach and Ivory, and our motto is With Todays Knowledge, We Challenge Tomorrow. Looking back through the years we have all shared many happy and sad moments in this school of ours. But there is one thing certain, we will all benefit from the knowledge we have gained through the years here. For we the class of 1977 believe that, With Todays Knowledge, We Will Challenge Tomorrow. 17 SUPERINTENDENT MR. HAROLD GRAMS ADMINISTRATION SECONDARY PRINCIPAL ELEMENTARY PRINCIPAL MR. SCOTT E. The Thun- derbird's spirits were high going into the next two games, unfortunately, our opponents were two of the conference's stronger teams and the T-Birds twice fell to defeat. We entered the next game against C-T at .500. It was a hard fought game with the outcome in doubt tell the final seconds when the T-Bird defense came through with a safety to win the game. The stage was set for the Homecoming game. We were Fired-Up and gave Milan a tough game but came out on the losing end. This defeat seemed to break the T-Birds hearts as the rest of the season went by without a vic- tory. The squad finished the season with a respectable 3-6 record. Top ground gainers for the year were All Conference Running Back-Don Deyo, with 383 yards and John Miller with 205 yards. Jack Appel was the top scorer with 3 touchdowns. We look for next year to be the Year of the Thunderbird as a fine crop of players return to better this years record. Lead by Senior co-captains, Terry LeClair and Joe Kuschel, the team carved a 4-4 conference record and was 5-10 overall. We were plagued by inexperience and injuries throughout the year. But having two solid leaders, such as Terry and Joe, helped take a lot of pressure off the younger wrestlers. We had trouble filling a couple of weight brackets, but many wrestlers gained experience through the challenge of wrestl- ing on the varsity squad. 53 Top Row, Left to Right: Jeff Peters, Jon Lewandowski, Bill Cubka, Terry Hoffman, C.erry Reinart, Dennis Duffield, Coach McMorrow, Coach Thornes, Don Sykora, Kelly LeClair, Scott Bolstad, Steve Krone, Gerry Torgeson, David Metz, Tim McCaskell, Greg Reinart, David Kuschel. A BASKETBALL COACHES AN Injuries and sickness kept the Thunderbird Basketball team from having a better season than they did but they were a much improved club over last year. After a slow start the T-Birds streaked to 4 wins in 6 games near the end of the season to finish with a 5-12 regular season record. They went on to record their first Sub-District Championship in 20 years, by defeating Elbow Lake, 71-49, and Chokio-Alberta, 35-33. The seniors provided great leadership and will be missed, but a fine bunch of Juniors makes the future look bright. Coach Welshinger Coach Hausman Captain Marge McLane Captain Peg Paulson D CAPTAINS Coach Michalke Coach Toops Captain Don Deyo The Browns Valley Girl's Basketball team, led by co-captains, Marge McLane and Peggy Paulson, showed their winning spirit by having their best season yet. De- fense was stressed in all practices and was the key factor in many of the girls' wins. Hustling was another important factor and it paid off when the team was rated num- ber three in the district. Their year begins with the half-time exhibition at the Homecoming Football Game. As basket- ball season rolls around the girls prepare for another performance. This year's routine was a take-off of the Virginia Reel. Summer follows, and with it are the many colorful parades including the Sam Browns Days Parade. The girls do several different routines along the parade route to both drum cadences and marches played by the Browns Valley High School Band. 80 Standing: P. Reineke, J. Heck, S. Pistorius, S. Best Wishes from The same mineral won't work for all cattlemen ...so MoorMan's offers a choice No blade of grass-or any other roughage-supplies all the minerals and in the proportion beef cattle are known to need for best results. But no single product can get the job done everywhere ... for all farmers and ranchers. So MoorMan’s’ offers a whole lineup of mineral-supplying products. Each is research-designed to fill a specific need in a specific area.
