THE ANNUAL STAFF OF BVHS PROUDLY PRESENTS: Editor: Denise Christensen Co-Editor: Kirk Griebel Secretary: Patty Andert Treasurer: Jeanne Paulson Advisor: Mr. Johnson THE 1976 THUNDERBIRD Celebrate America! 1776-1976 The class of 1976 dedicates this annual to the 200th birthday of the United States of America. We are constantly being bombarded with articles which advertise the bicentenial. Much money is being spent on publicizing it. One may purchase practically any product which in some way expresses the celebration. But, it seems to us, that expression is being made for the wrong reason. In short, a lot of people are making a lot of money, by using America. Our countries 200th birthday should be celebrated, but in ways which glorify, not exploit, her. We should think of the many advancements which have been made. We should rejoice at the rights and freedoms which have been obtained and kept. Indeed, America deserves to be honored by her many citizens. As the graduating class we see the bicentenial year not only as a chance to look back at what America has become, but as an opportunity to lookahead at her future. We will be starting the third hundred year period of our country and we shall strive to make it even better than the last. . In dedicating this annual, we have declared, that we will be putting our efforts towards the betterment of America. 2 Front Row: JoAnn Kuschel, Peggy Johnson, Joan Birnbaum, Joan Heck, Denise Christensen, Virginia Schwa gel, Patty Andert, Lynn Jung. Sykora A HISTORY OF Something great happened in 1958! That's the year most members of the 1976 Browns Valley High School graduating class were bom. Little did people know, those 18 years ago, of all the astonishing things our class would do. In the fall of 1963, our mothers thought we could get along without them, so they sent us to kindergarten. We began our school days together in Mrs. Hurlbut's kindergarten class. All 46 of us were eager students; some were even eager to learn. Many new friendships were made that year. One thing that keeps everybody in kinder- garten was show and tell. Everyone thought their story was better. First grade held many memorable experiences; for some, it meant being tied to a chair, others, having our mouth taped shut. All in all first grade had a lot of what they call boy friends ! ! Girls were being chased by the boys in the playgrounds at recess, naturally to see who was the fastest runner. Returning to school in August for second grade, we lost a few and gained a few. Now we were beginning to learn a few new things about how to tell the teachers what to do, or how to manage the light switch in the bath- rooms. Gee! we're half finished with school already; grade school, that is. And there went third grade with lots of us writing I will not talk millions (it seemed like it) of times. In the other room they had to write all the numbers up to 10,000 on paper. What a waste of paper! Fourth grade found us busy learning our division and multiplication tables. That was also the year everyone's birthday was celebrated by going through a paddle wheel. Mr. Goodhart had lots of fun games for us all the time. One game we didn't like was copying pages out of the dictionary. Remember the time he had to dry his pants on the furnace. Also, the time Larry took ten swats with the board instead of doing ten problems over until they were correct. We hit upon a new advancement in fifth grade: rotating from one room to another between classes. Since we only rotated in a square, we managed this step without having anyone get lost. Besides this, fifth grade was sort a the usual. Remember in sixth grade; Mrs. LeCuyer and her Greek Mythology, square dancing, recess, and Mr. Zinter's metro cal cans. There was one time we'll remember forever and that was when Larry B. was chasing Joanne P. around the room and knocked Mr. Zinter's flower plant off. Boy did he storm out of the room. I guess we did get a trip our sixth grade year. . . .a trip to the sewer plant. WOW! What can 44 little seventh grade punks do? they asked. Well, we showed them. First we elected our class officers: President-Jeff Borgheiink; Vice President-Dave Kaus; Secretary-Treasurer-Karen Kuschel; Student Council-Carol Schwagel. With the help of Miss Bird, our advisor, we won first prize on our Homecoming float, Rope the Mustangs . We added life through our class parties, noon time stage activities??! ! and our experiment in Math class, (that was the year we had four Math teachers). Eighth grade found us tamed down a bit. We were led by our class officers: President-Dave Kaus; Vice Pres- ident-Colleen Sykora; Secretary-Jan Spotts; Treasurer-Brad Ziemer; Student Council-Barb Hoffman. Our advisor that year was Mr. Carlson. Again we had a prize winning float. The eighth grad American Legion Awards were given to Jo Ann Kuschel and Dareld Klemm. THE CLASS OF 1976 We finished junior high, and in 1972 became mighty freshmen, (The lucky ones in our class were even able to take Algebra.) Our advisors were Mr. Haug and Mr. Michaelson, but we finished the year with only one. Class officers were as follows: President-Barb Hoffman; Vice-President-Chuck Eagle: Secretary-Tim LeClair; Treasurer-Darrell Dobbs; Student Council-Jeanne Paulson. Our choice for representing us at Homecoming were attendents Jan Spotts and Chuck Eagle. We've always been a class of nicknames, That's part of the reason our sophmore Homecoming float (which won 3rd prize) Skunk 'Em. That year we chose as officers: President-Kirk Griebel; Vice-President-Todd Duffield; Secretary Pat Andert; Treasurer-Joan Bimbaum; Student Council-Joanne Peterson. Our attendents were Mary Dusing Miller and Mike Thompson; our advisors, Mr. Angell and Mr. Dittberner. By the time we were Juniors they knew us pretty well, so were given the advisors Miss Beasley, Mr. Haug, and Mr. Hausmann. We elected as our officers: President-Dave Kaus; Vice-President-Mark Pistorious; Secretary- Denise Christensen; Treasurer-Mary Dusing Miller; Student Council-Jeanne Paulson and Don Metz. Homecoming attendents were Colleen O'Leary and Darrell Dobbs. Our second place float entitled Do It Again, Harder, Hard- er. We chose Stairway to Heaven for our Prom theme; You're a Good Man Charlie Brown as our class play. At last we are Seniors! Our advisors are Mrs. Zacharias and Mr. Angell. For our final class officers the follow- ing were selected: President-Kirk Griebel; Vice-President-Darrell Dobbs; Secretary-Barb Hoffman; Treasurer Pat Andert; Student Council-Dave Kaus and Colleen O'Leary. Queen Barb Hoffman and King Brad Ziemer had Jeanne Paulson, Colleen O'Leary, Don Metz and Kirk Griebel as fell Senior Homecoming Royalty. Our class play this year is The Diary of Anne Frank . Due to a variety of reasons, through the years we have lost the following classmates and friends: Rick Andrews, Larry Biel, DeAllyn Christensen, Mike Crough, Jim Despiegler, Glenn Dusing, Greg Harter, Karla Hauder, Cathy Hilden, Claudia Hilden, Quentin Keoke, GailKleindl, Karen Lanie, Bob Lee, Kent Lewandowski, Heidi Lubbers, Martin Madsen, Karen Kuschel Metz, Mike Morgan, Julie Nigg, Sandy Nigg, Matt Nubert, Mike Oletzke, Mike Papka, Roger Pederson, Julie Peterson, Bill Raw, Mike Raw, Jodi Schmidt, Debbie Smith, Lynn Stadler, Glenda Sykora, Mike Thompson, Mike Westlund, Robert Wilson, and Pam Witte. Thirteen years ago, we left the security of home, to start school, more or less alone. Now, once again it is time for us to leave home. However, we will not be alone this time. We will have many cherished memories and friendships to take with us that we have received from Browns Valley School., Senior Class Officers President: Kirk Griebel V. The victories were infrequent despite outstanding performances by Sophomore Jeff Paulson who was among the leading scorers and leading in rebounding. A longstanding tradition was broken as we lost to the Beardsley Mustangs for the first time that anyone can remem- ber. We lacked height, but partially compensated it in speed and determination. Next year is looked upon as a year in which the Mighty T-Birds will be more successful! in the conference. A SQUAD GIRLS BASKETBALL. Get calves growing the easy, convenient way with MoorMan’s Calf Starter For the time-saving convenience of a complete calf feed, it’s hard to beat MoorMan’s Calf Starter Medicated. The high-energy, palatable pellets pro- mote the same fast growth and thrifty condition as a grain-Calf Mintrate • ration for MoorMan users who prefer to mix their own calf feed. After calves are 6 weeks old, you can continue the convenience of ready-to-feed Starter or change to a grain-Mintrate mix. Let’s figure on a results-producing feeding program to fit your needs. MoorMan Man’s Name Address and Phone Number Get calves growing the easy, convenient way-with MoorMan’s Calf Starter The same mineral won't work for all cattlemen ...so MoorMan's offers a choice No blade of grass—or any other roughage—supplies all the minerals and in the proportion beef cattle are known to need for best results. But no single product can get the job done everywhere ... for all farmers and ranchers. So MoorMan’s- offers a whole lineup of mineral-supplying products. Each is research-designed to fill a specific need in a specific area. Let’s work out a program to match your cattle, pasture and weather conditions—to help hold down production costs and increase your returns. Your MoorMan Man, MoorMan Man’s Name EDWIN H.
