NINETEEN HUNDRED AND FIFTY TWO 'ITY PROVIDENCE RHODE ISLAND DEDICATION T0 Evva Alberta Mooar, Dean of Admissions, for her invaluable service in introducing us to Pembroke and her genuine interest in each of us throughout our college careers, for her gracious charm and constant cheerfulness, and for her willingness to help solve any of our problems, we, the Class of Nineteen Hundred Fifty-Two, dedicate our yearbook. We are happy to wel- come Professor George E. Downing of the Art Department as our class honorary. His successful combination of a sihcere enthusiasm for his subject, a lively wit, and a friendly interest in his students, makes him a favorite with us. Professor Downing Miss Coakley We are very proud of Miss Ann Coakleyk widely recognized achievements in hockey and lacrosse. But we have chosen her our class honor- ary, particularly because she came to Pembroke when we did, and because she has always shown good sports- manship, unassuming charm, and fairness to all. gONORARIES Alina Mater! we hail thee with loyal devot ALUMNAE HALL Ion, SGA has traveled far this year, both literally and in the field of projects and ideas. This year, for the first time, city girls could stay overnight as often as fifteen times a semester. They could use the house for parties and as a place to study or relax. Along with their an- nual events, tan Open House for Brown, a Mother-daughter tea, and a May Day receptionL the girls held a buffet supper in March to pay for the newly purchased refrigerator for West House. From copy sheet to drawing board, from camera to ad space, and from ac- count book to galley proof, the 1951-52 Brun Mael staff has worked enthusi- astically since last spring to produce this Annual. Our theme is you, the students of Pembroke; our material is your associations, your activities, and your participation in campus life. With this in mind, we have placed the emphasis on pictures, rather than on written material. We hope that this Brun Mael will serve as a permanent record and a pleasant reminder of your undergraduate days on the hill. SOCK AND BUSKIN . This year, the Orchestra gave a series of pop concerts to the Brown Club of Providence and several Churches, as well as its annual concert in February. The Orchestra also joined the Brown-Pemhroke Chorus in the Christmas Con- cert. FRESHMEN Last fall, the F reshmen got off to an ambitious start with their first class project-that of making stuffed animals as Christmas presents for orphan children. The class also adopted a War Orphan, wrote a class song, and started a spring clean-up campaign at the Outing Cabin. In the future, they hope to promote camp craft activities at the Cabin. A primary interest of the Sophomore Class is the promotion of group singing at Pembroke. With this in mind, they sponsored a step-sing,i before Homecoming, mimeographed a sheet of college songs, and are considering the publication of a Pembroke Songbook. This year they have pub- lished the Archives of 955,9 and the Freshman Handbook. FRESHMAN WEEK On Sunday, September 9, F reshman Week opened with a hang with a party in West House for the non-resident students. The week was an exciting whirl of events. We sandwiched what seemed an endlessvseries of tests and examinations between teas and receptions-the Dean,s tea, the Presidenths reception, and the clergy tea. Hilarity was 'high 9midst the antics of Field Day. We gathered for the first time as an entire class at the F reshman Banquet, where Dean Lewis told us the history and tradition of the buildings on our cam- pus. At the Brown-Pembroke dance, we were in- troduced to college social life. Throughout the week, we talked, we listened, and we became Pembrokers. We were talking about the wonderful attitude of the F reshman in their winning skit depicting the disillusionments and delights of a Pembrokefs first year at college. Keen competition was not lacking, however. The Sophomores gave a take-off on a fraternity man9s Dollie-Freshman trophy toter STUNT NIGHT attitude toward pinning a Pembroker, the J uniors danced through a skit about Pembrokers at the Hay, and the Seniors contrasted a college womanhs tactics of getting her man in the Victorian age and today. You ask whatls been happening at Pembroke. I7ll elucidate briefly. Marriage and careers take their first toll of our classmates . . . we attend an impressive in- stallation service for Dean Lewis and also honor a famous Pembroker, Ruth Hussey . . . Freshman sisters recall our own bewildered days and remind us of new responsibilities . . . the long-awaited dorm for City Girls becomes a reality. Before I close, further word on the From weekend. At the May Day Pageant, our Junior Court will play a major role; then, Andrews Hallls first garden re- ception, and on to the Bacchanale Ball! CLASS HISTORY 1950-1951 80 CLASS HISTORY 1951-1952 SENIOR YEAR Dear Sir: For four years we have been trying to prepare ourselves for a stable future, despite the pressing concerns of the mo- ment. We have watched with anxiety the confu- sion in international affairs, particularly the un- resolved conflict between Russia and the United States. At the same time, we have broadened our interests and have assumed responsibility in order to give Pembroke the leadership it deserves. Graduation brings to a close an essentially care- V free, yet constructive phase of our lives. Now we feel we are ready to build on the foundations that were laid during our years at Pembroke. mROTHY-ANN ADELSON C . JOAN DORIS ALEXANDER MARJEAN LEE ARMITAGE A.B. Art A.B. Art A.B.
