Greek letters, poker, pink teas and petticoats We're talking about a dme when tuition was a hundred dollars a vyear, when you could pick up an amethyst set pin and earrings for two dollars, a Liber for a buck and a half or a jar of olives for a dime. We're talking about three piece suits, button on collars, about days of spats and Con- gress boots. We're talk- ing about talking latin to professors met in the halls and freshman bean- ies, prohibition, the first women students and really not walking on the grass. We're talking about way back when. It was a time when young men conducted themselves as gentle- men, at least visible. In stiffly starched shirts and bow ties they were just this side of man- hood, of successful busi- ness careers, and of ty- ing permanent matri- monial knots. Brown was both the first stop in the career chain and the last fling, the final heyday. In that sense what we're talking about is timeless.
