The Green is a place for reading and rapping, for meditating and sleep- ing in the sun. It is for football and frisbee, for demonstrations of love and anger. Shrouded in snowy dark- ness or bathed in brilliant sunlight, the Green is a place where people meet and exchange pleasantries and ideas, a place where all the diverse elements of the university converge and interact.

EDITOR'S PREFACE A yearbook often becomes a collec- tion of the impressions of its creators. These people, while members of the academic community as a whole, also belong to diverse smaller communities within this whole. LIBER 71 is designed to present these communities as they are, rather than imposing on them an organiza- tional or chronological order. These communities can be defined in many ways: where they are located CAM- PUS, when they existed SPRING, why they existed SPORTS, DRAMA, or merely because they did exist PEOPLE. Thus, this book chooses to ignore the traditional pat- terns in an effort to best present our impressions of the communities at Brown.
