ag, 2 . l l r r ,P yr e 3 8 2 i 2 1 i ? 3 r i ln the minds of all seniors there was but one choice for the dedication of the annual-Major Bitterlin, to whom we cadets unanimously refer as the right man in the right job. Only now at commencement, when we receive our diplomas from an honor military school, are we aware of the role he has had in guiding the academy to its' place of prominence among the schools in the West and, more directly, of his efforts in preparing us to accept res onsibility in life. ln fulfilling the duties of his office, Major Bitterlin is ever the dignified admin- istrator, but to the delight of the student body he has on many occasions lessened the gravity of a situation with some witty remarlc or impish behavior. A booster as well as a planner, he has faithfully attended all sports events, Wednesday parades, dances, and other social functions. Possessing great forebearance, he has' patiently listened to innumerable complaints from all sources, then diplomatically announced a decision appeasing all parties. A man of tact, foresight, faith, and practicality, Major Bitterlin has completely won our confidence. We remember him for his' wisdom, logic, sympathetic understanding, and humor: we respect him for his intolerance of dishonestyg we admire him for his rejection of mediocrity: we thank him for his encouragement of excellence. PROPEF-Weir o if E It is the instinct of every living creature of Go-d t-o fight for survival. To survive against the elements and wild life, the caveman clothed himself with animal slcins and armed himself with stones and became the first warrior. When he acquired a mate, a family, a cave for shelter, his fight became greater. With the intelligence of man he improved his weap-ons and metho-ds of defense for the protection of his loved ones and his h-ome. Two thousand years before Christ to the present day his education has continued . . . from a few sto-nes, to the atom bomb . . . from the Spartan boy's training to the training of the ROTC cadet . . . and when necessity demands that he use this knowledge, he bec-omes a warrior. Volumes have been written of the wars of man,and these wars have produced many brave men whose quotations have been the inspiration for the theme of this. our I958 Warrio-r.
