Only now at commencement, when we receive our diplomas from an honor military school, are we aware of the role he has had in guiding the academy to its' place of prominence among the schools in the West and, more directly, of his efforts in preparing us to accept res onsibility in life. ln fulfilling the duties of his office, Major Bitterlin is ever the dignified admin- istrator, but to the delight of the student body he has on many occasions lessened the gravity of a situation with some witty remarlc or impish behavior. A booster as well as a planner, he has faithfully attended all sports events, Wednesday parades, dances, and other social functions. Possessing great forebearance, he has' patiently listened to innumerable complaints from all sources, then diplomatically announced a decision appeasing all parties. A man of tact, foresight, faith, and practicality, Major Bitterlin has completely won our confidence. We remember him for his' wisdom, logic, sympathetic understanding, and humor: we respect him for his intolerance of dishonestyg we admire him for his rejection of mediocrity: we thank him for his encouragement of excellence.
