Sixth row: English Hatha' way, Landes, Sellfors. ln general terms the purpose of our Spanish Department Club is identical with the goal of our Language Department viz. the acquisition of linguistic comprehensions and expressions for the broadening of our intellectual horizons: for the stimulation and enrichment of our cultural presenta- tions, and to increase the scope of international understanding and cooperation. Besides this, our goal is to acquire the ability to make cultural and guiding deliberations under the exigencies of an exacting modern scientific and atomic age. In this academy our club also accepts with willingness and pleasure the obligation of playing the part of an international host to our Latin American Cadets' who come from the various countries south of our borders to be educated in the English language. All of these cadets are automatically invited to assume membership in our club and its activities and to contribute to its programs. Membership is' open also to all members of the cadets studying Spanish here or who have taken previous courses in the language here. This year the activities of our club have been marked by three principal programs, the first in which Mr. Frank Hookins gave an illustrated lecture on the establishment of the early Baja California Missions. The photography was excellent and the' lecture scholarly as a result of careful research. The second club program was held on November 23rd as an afternoon tea in which several Spanish teach- ers of the San Diego Area and Pan American Club members, and consuls of Latin American countries were invited to attend. The main object of the meeting was to give an opportunity to discuss with teachers of other schools and other officials the possibility of working out some inter-school social and cultural exchanges and programs and Spanish Club visits and to lay the ground work for lnter-American cultural exchanges between schools of Tijuana, Our third club meeting was held in the B.M.A. auditorium in which cadets presented a program of Latin American instrumental music climaxed by a group of vocal numbers by Cadet Robert Espinosa from Sonora, Mexico, with his own guitar accompaniment. The program was terminated with a period of social dancing to the music of record players'.
