How many people do you know that participate in various sports and clubs? All of these are extra-curricular activities and it takes a lot of dedication to balance homework and one or more extra-curricular activities. Some people like to be in extra-curricular activities but then can't find the time to do their homework, while others consider it a challenge to try and juggle both. If they have a positive attitude, they can usually pull it off. They started out the year by changing the number of young women they had on the squad. Increasing, from 5 to 8 in junior varsity, and decreasing from 6 to 5 in varsity. After this, just before the football season went into full swing, they received a new sponsor, Bonnie Sorrels. Over the summer they spent one week at UCA's (Universal Cheerleaders Association) summer camp in Carbondale. Illinois. At the camp they won various ribbons and the most outstanding squad award, which is the highest award that can be obtained at UCA. Although they finished their cheerleading season with basketball in the late winter. They have their cheerleading tryouts for next years squad every spring. Leslie Kropp, Jennifer Boyer, Rachel Wade. The Varsity and J.V. squads did an outstanding job at their summer camp this year. Participating in the Universal Cheerleading Association's Camp at Carbondale, II., they won the trophy for Best Over-all Squad throughout the camp. This honor was given to them because of their spirit, confidence, and cooperation throughout the week at the camp. All of the cheer-leaers are very proud of their trophy because it has been several years since the last trophy was given to B.C.H.S. The varsity basketball team had a fair season this year with eleven wins and sixteen losses. They had one win and five losses in conference play and made it to regional finals. The Sophomore team had eight wins and twelve losses, with the Freshman team having ten wins and fifteen losses. Almost everybody enjoys a good game and fans love to see the results of the players hard work and stamina play off. Our teams have given us many great memories. Once in awhile, things seem to get a bit hectic and you feel the need to segregate yourself from the world. But this is not always possible. So, the next best thing is to take a trip to the library, as Lorie Logsdon is doing here. You can kick back and relax while reading a book. Or, concentrate on the things that are really important. If you have a perplexing problem that totally baffles you, this will give you time to sort through and figure it out. You can also have time to yourself that you can't always find elsewhere. o Sophomores Fwiltutm Freshman Clan OfftiMl Front: Susie Lerch — Sponsor. Kathy Ferguson — President. School of aft m Clubs You are probably thinking that this is not a School of Arts, but, in a way it is. The four clubs can help show that. First, there's Art Club. That pretty well speaks for itself. The Art Club is very active. First, they always come up with a clever idea for the Homecoming Parade. They always have an eye catching banner that shows their talent. They also decorate the windows downtown at Christmas. They also keep display case full of their creativity. Then there is Biology Club. How is Biology an art? You need special skills and ability to deal with the delicate organisms. The Biology Club is planning to paint the front school windows and taking another trip this year. Next, Choir. It takes skill to sing the written notes and carry a tune. They have a Christmas Concert and Spring Concert to display these skills. Then, F.F.A. They do more than just learn about animals. They also learn carpentry, welding, and various other things that deal with art because of the skills involved. Some of the clubs activities are: a Halloween Dance, local, state, and national conventions, a Spring Dance, and a slave auction. All of these clubs are part of helping build our american communities into more beautiful places. Clu iK Front Lisa Else. Kris Dunbar, Lisha Newel. Mr Harshman Bock Lisa Crenshaw. Derrick Baker. The club is also involved in the Test of Engineering Aptitude in Math and Science (TEAMS) competition at John Wood Community College in Quincy. They also take a field trip to Mc-Donald-Douglas Corporation in St. Louis. The N.H.S. is one of the most prestigious clubs in school. The club consists of the brightest students in school. Their activities include selling eggs for a fund raiser, tutoring, adopting a family for Christmas, and selling candy canes. The Library Club keeps the libraries in the school system functioning. They process books for all four schools. At the high school, they also check out and file books, clean shelves, file cards in the card catalog, and various other duties necessary in the running of the library. They answer the telephones, keep attendance, sell lunch tickets, sell supplies, deliver announcements, run the copy machine, and do assorted errands. The Rambler staff puts together the yearbook. It involves selling ads (a very unpleasant job), taking pictures in classes and at school functions, writing the copy you are now reading, and, doing fundraisers to pay for this book. The staff meets once a week throughout the school year. S.A.E. also has several activities planned for the school year. They sell calendars which list the birthdays of all students and faculty. During National Teacher Week they are planning to do niceties for the teachers. They plan to tour Western Illinois University of their field trip this year. The Student Council sponsors many activities throughout the year.
