Above, counterclockwise, Superintendent William Vierling, Principal Robert Decker, Board Secretary Janet Harshman, Board Secretary Carol Moody. The Brown County Community Unit District Number One School Administration has an important role in keeping the school system running smoothly. School board members Richard Salrin, president, Charles Koch, vice-president, Tom Schneider, secretary, Art Yin-gling, Jim Reische, Marie Glasgow, and Dave Newell meet once a month to make decisions that can have effect on class trips, athletics, arts, and of course, academics. It is their duty to hire a competent faculty to give the students in the district the best possible education they can get. The board secretaries work hard to keep information running through smooth channels so the members will keep informed on the business at hand. You will find Carol and Janet very helpful in obtaining school information. Mr. Decker oversees the students at the county high school. His job requires many long and hard hours, attending meetings and school functions besides his regular administrative duties. , Mr. Vierling, superintendent, serves in the most demanding role. Public relations is the name of his game. Trying to educate Brown County school children and young adults is his main concern and he devotes many hours and lots of energy to this task. When you begin to take your school system for granted, remember that these people are behind it all, giving much time and energy and their most rewarding pay is a community who appreciates their efforts. D UUUJU The Theme of the 1979-1980 Rambler is “Every Ending is a New Beginning.” The Seniors will be featured throughout the book because they are ending their high school years and beginning to pursue their ambitions. At each day’s end, we all look to the next day’s beginning in anticipation of the things to come. Such was the case this year at Brown County High School; the student body and faculty seemed to “come alive” after so long a period of dormant school spirit. As the year unfolded, each activity spread the small flame of school spirit until it was a blazing fire, consuming each and every person involved. Increased participation, genuine interest in school affairs, and sincere desire to change and improve were three important factors in revitalizing pride in Brown County. Hopefully, the ending of this period of apathy brings the beginning of an era of involvement in the school that continues in the years to come.
