The majorettes reported that camp was a lot of fun and hard work. These girls have worked hard and contributed a lot to the football and basketball games this year. B.C.H.S. Majorettes 68 Varsity Cheerleaders Susie Parker, Cinda Moore, Debbie Cutforth, Janelle Hulvey, Bonnie Kleinlein. The B.C.H.S. Varsity Cheerleaders were elected by the student body in May 1971. They immediately began preparing for camp at Illinois State University, where they won 2 honorable mention, 1 outstanding, 1 excellent, and 1 superior ribbons in competition with 700 other cheerleaders around the state. Preparation was made for the coming football and basketball seasons, which involve at least 33 games and 15 pep assemblies. These girls strived to make each game and each pep assembly something special for the student body and fans. This involved time, initiative, and sacrifice. 69 BCHS MARCHING BAND The Marching Hornets begin their training during the last week of August. Besides performing at all the home football games, the band performs at one away game and one area college homecoming parade. The field shows consist of the pageantry picture show formations, but they strive to perfect the geometric-figure, precision drill formations if time permits. This part of the band program is very beneficial and although very strenuous at times, the band members usually respond enthusiastically. CONCERT The concert band season begins very early. Playing at the county fair and the Illinois State Fair starts the program off in high gear. After the marching season, the band performs for the Christmas assembly, the home basketball games, two spring concerts, contest or tour, and graduation. These programs require the band to be able to perform music Beatles to Bach. 72 BAND STAGE BAND 73 CHORUS 74 DRAMA CLUB FIRST ROW: Mr. Hendershot, Diane Demaree, Kay Schneider, Cindy Volk, Vanessa Holtkamp, Michele Elbus, Sherry Baker, Debbie Cutforth, Misty Moore. As quoted from the 1952 Rambler, : This school is one of the modern schools in the state. It has sixteen classrooms, a combination studyhall and library, a large gymnasium, a spacious home economics room, special shower rooms, and boiler room. Slow construction delayed the opening of school for two weeks. Registration took place on September 17, 1951, and classes were held the following day. The building construction was begun in 1950 and was finished in 1952. The Board of Education at the time was made up of John L. McPhail--President, Estel Meservey-Secretary, Lozelle Hofsess, Dana Lewis, Herman Lewis, Wayne Sides, and J. Glenn Thomas. Others involved were: J. Russel Morris--Unit Superintendent, Richard T. Crane--Principal, Minnie Bickens Flynn--County Superintendent, Raymond G. Johnson--Architect, Thomas J. Higgins--School Board Consultant. In 1960 additions were made which included the agriculture and industrial arts shops, cafeteria, and auditorium. On May 19, 1972 the Board of Education accepted Dye Steel Builders proposal to construct an Auto Mechanics-Music-Art facility at BCHS. LIMIT BROWN COUNTY STATE BANK Mt.
