Kennedy of Massachusetts, youngest president in US. history, the country lost a highly-regarded and remarkably capable statesman and administrator. President Kennedy, and soon-to-be-retired, Ger- man Chancellor Adenauer met in Bonn during Kennedy’s successful ten-day tour of Western Europe. Major Gordon Cooper received the Distinguished Service Medal from President Kennedy at the White House in May, following Cooper’s 22 orbit flight and manually controlled re-entry.
