°J h q o BROWN COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL B.C.H.S., which serves entire Brown County, is located on Route 24. The enrollment is approximately 270 pupils. Our school has sixteen classrooms, a library and studyhall, a gymnasium, and a home economics room. The halls are lined with lockers to accommodate each student. The gymnasium is in the center of the building with the classrooms built around it. The rooms under the bleachers are used as storage space for equipment etc. The football field, equipped with lights, is on the east side of the building. The baseball field is on the south side of the building. On the east is a large parking area. Our campus, on the north, is landscaped with evergreens. 2 RAMBLER STAFF The Rambler began in 1928. Discontinued in 1929 from lack of funds, the Rambler was revived in 1938 by Marv McCutcheon Hofsess and William A. Harriman. 1955 marks the nineteenth edition. Without the generous dollars of local merchants, and the cooperation of the whole school as well as the work of the staff, this book would not be possible. DEDICATION We, the Rambler staff, dedicate this, the 1955 edition of the Rambler, to a member of our faculty who has done many things for both our high school and student body. His unfailing co-operation, ever-present friendliness and willingness to help each of us, has made Mr. Henrick, our agricultural instructor, a favorite among the students. 4 ADMINISTRATION Standing: Lozelle Hofsess, Glenn Thomas, J. L. McPhail, Russell Weaver, Supt. Seated: Leon Roberts, Harold Hoelscher, Wayne Sides, George McCoy. BOARD OF EDUCATION Seven members comprise the Brown County Board of Education. These men have a difficult, time-consuming job for which they receive no salary. The school board meets on the first Thursday of every month. In addition, special meetings are often necessary. The board has the task of running an efficient and economical school system. They must see to it that the children are well educated, that the parents and public are satisfied, and that the teachers do their duty. Complaints at times make the life of a board member very trying. Although it is a difficult job, it is very essential for the management and smooth running of the High School system. 6 MR. H. L.
