Payne Mrs. Florence Tustison Mr. Lloyd C. Cassels Mr. Robert E, Ferris COLLEGE ADVISORY COMMITTEE lt is five o'clock in the afternoon in Fort Lauderdale . . . Students and faculty are vacating the campus after a day that began ten hours ago. The near-empty parking lots give evidence that only a few of the students are still working on laboratory and class assignments. It will be an hour before the traffic reverses and hundreds converge on the campus for evening classes. In one sense, 'The day is done.' At the administration building, however, one of the most important events of the day is taking place. Two lawyers, a contractor, a real estate developer, and the wife of a dentist are engaged in serious deliberation with the president of the college. They may be discussing finances, curriculum, fee schedule, or personnel. Whatever the items included on the agenda, here are five lay citizens making a contribution to the institution and its program. For this is a regular meeting of the Advisory Committee of the Junior College of Broward County, Thus did President Rushing pay tribute to our Advisory Com- mittee in the nationally distributed Junior College Journal. The 1964 Silver Sands staff ioins Dr. Rushing in this tribute. Mr. Robert E. Ferris was graduated from the College of Law at the University of Illinois and at present is a partner in the law firm of McCune, Hiaasen, Crum and Ferris. Mrs. Florence H. Tustison holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts degree from the University of Toledo and did further graduate study at the University of Guadalajara in Mexico. She is a former school teacher and a former member of the Fort Lauderdale City Commission. Mr. John H. Payne was graduated from the College of Law at the University of Miami. He is a contractor and a practicing attorney. Mr. Lloyd C. Cassels attended the American Business College and the University of Florida. He is president of the insurance firm of Bateman, Cassels and Gordon. Mr. Judson A. Samuels was graduated from the College of Law at the University of Miami and is a practicing attorney in Hollywood, Florida. PRESIDENT RUSHING lt has been written: A president's iob in the American college . . . is one of the most complex and most difficult to perform of all the positions of trust in the active life of the nation. Dr. Joe B. Rushing, the founding president of the Junior College of Broward County, has gained profound respect and admiration from his faculty, his county and his adopted state for his performance in the most difficult of jobs. -l Il 'vii VIC! The Seahorses began the season with a guard combination of Rex Petro and ,Gil Ford, both averaging over twenty points per game.
