Future Teachers of America The Future Teachers of America club was organized at Brosville for the first time this year. This organization consists of students interested in teaching as a professional career. The purpose of the organization is to inform students of the vocational opportu nities in education, the qualifications basic to successful teaching, and to help future teachers gain experiences that will assist in their readiness for college programs of teacher education. The members are chosen by a commitxee of three teachers, and, to qualify, a stu- dent must have a grade average of B or better, a good scholarship and leadership record, and a sincere desire to learn more about the teaching profession. The F. T.A. at Brosville is affiliated with both the National Education Association and the Virginia Education Association. Miss Charlotte McGhee is the sponsor of our local chapter. Later in 1933, it was recognized as an incorpo rated chapter of the Future Farmers of America. From the very beginning the boys who were enrolled in these courses felt a spirit of comradeship due to their background of country life and their desires with regard to farming as a vocation. The organization is a non-profit, non-political farm youth group of voluntary membership designed to take its place along with other agencies striving for the development of leadership, the building of a more permanent agriculture, and the improvement of country life. 50
