The new Tech. Building. The Union is to be torn down June 1, 1984 to make room for the new Technical Building. This building is to house the Electrical Engineering Tech. Students and also contain new computer labs. In addition, the plans include two lecture halls and many classrooms. With this additional classroom space Nimmonsburg could be closed. Some proposed plans for the new Union included moving the old Union Building to a new location, moving into the Alms House, using the Maintance Building and the Student Center. So far none of these plans have been pushed through the red tape and no one is sure what will become of the beloved Union. Will the Union be moved? Will there even be a Union? Well, wait and see!!

PAST- PRESENT- PROSPECTIVE On April 4, 1946 Broome Community College was founded. At that time it was known as The New York State Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences. September 3, 1951 the Armory Building (first BCC) burned down. The college moves to the Kalurah Temple and changed it’s name to the Broome County Technical Institute. On September 1, 1953 Broome County takes over the college from the state. | On September 28, 1956 the Wales Building was started. By January 7, 1957 five buildings were finished. The buildings were The Wales Building, The Student Center, and the Electrical, Science, and Mechanical Buildings. Also, in 1956, the name of the college was again changed. This time to Broome Technical Community College. The first open house for the new college was held on May 24, 1957. On May 17, 1963 Titchner Hall was completed. And in May of ‘68 the new library was also completed. The final change to the school’s name came in the year 1971. It was at this time named Broome Community College. Three of the buildings were named after people who played a large part in the planning of the new college. These people were Paul F. Titchner, who was chairman of the college in 1946; Cecil C. Tyrrell, who was President of the college in 1946; and Darwin R. Wales, who took over the Chairmanship in September 1957.
