EDICATION — FATHER FRED Father Fred has been a stand-out personality on our campus for two years. Pictures of the Campus Minister appear throughout the yearbook attending various activities with students. One of Father Fred’s favorite passtimes is writing poetry. We of the Citadel staff obtained the following poem, written about love by Father Fred, and printed it in hopes of showing some insight into his personality. Alone, a solitary figure sat in solitude and gazed upon his crucified Lord A heart filled and whispered softly “TI love you so”’ In the quiet and stillness of that moment His God smiled at him then And inside his heart He heard him say “I know” He brought His love to a mountain, a special place and walked amid the colored leaves. The sun, its light filtering upon their path as they passed a rock where he had sat and found their love. He stopped and pointed to the ground His eyes, a memory of agony and pain She turned and looked at him then And he heard her say “I know” They walked up a hill, a cross was there He stood apart from her as she gazed beyond He wanted to take her in his arms He loved her so A gentle breeze crossed their face A voice inside him whispered then CROSS And he heard it say “I know” He left that day, a different man WILL @ TRAVEL A solitary figure and his love Now she walks beside him and softly takes his arm And smiles at him then Father Fred’s college graduation picture.
