Strike Date 6 Days Away Student Boycott Set For Oct. 17 The students formed their own picket lines last week. Last Friday, the lines were seen between the two Front Street entrances to the cam- pus. The next day, the stu- dents took to the front of the Broome County Courthouse. Despite heavy rains and freez- ing winds, close to one-hun- dred students took part. Of late, there has been discussion as to which would be more effective, a teacher strike or a student boycott. Conversation concerning the two items has been heard everywhere from Titchener lounge to the lines in the cafe- teria at the SUB. The SMC has stated that it feels if a settlement is not reached by October 18, a student boy- cott would be better. A spokesman for the SMC gave the committee's reasons for this position. ''The boycott has been set to begin Octo- ber 17 if a settlement has not been reached. The teachers have said that if the matter is not resolved by October 18, they will strike. This is what would happen if they do strike; Students lose class time. The teachers who do strike would be fined two days pay for each day they are not on duty. The members of the Faculty negotiating team and the officers of the Faculty As- sociation could be fined heavily and imprisoned. However, if enough students do boycott until both parties reach an agreement, the school would have to be closed and therefore, the teachers would not have to strike. So it appears that a student boycott would be the lesser of the two evils. explained the spokesman, October 17, A Day To Be Remembered MobilizationStudents Boycott ‘ee ttend ey, A 10 Show Support me (SNC) a
