Change comes to The Citadel We live in a world of change—whether at the in- ternational, national or campus level. And change has finally caught up with your yearbook, as this 1965 Citadel has made sev- eral sharp breaks with the past. Most noticeable changes will be found in the faculty and senior sections. In- stead of adding to the al- ready overwhelming num- ber of group pictures necessary in a yearbook, we have switched to indi- vidual pictures of facult in informal, if not candid, poses. We feel this has made the faculty section one of the most interesting portions of the book. The senior pictures have been reduced in size from past presentations and stripped together in a mod- ern treatment. In addition, the arrangements and sizes of the strips have been varied from page to page to eliminate the tendency to- ward monotony. There are other changes too. We have tried to make better use of white space in our layouts. Asaresult you will see pages that are not overcrowded with pictures, giving a more relaxed at- mosphere to the presenta- tion of the 1965 school year. And we think you will find it easier to read and leaf through. We have returned to the use of pictures inside the front and back covers, and for the first time we have used different pictures in- side the two covers instead of repeating the same one twice. Again we think this is a modern and intelligent way to produce a yearbook. We have punctuated the volume of group club pic- tures with pictures of each organization in action, where possible. And we have included a descrip- JTRCNINV tion of the club’s purposes and functions, in an effort to make this a more mean- ingful yearbook. We have introduced the “Vital Statistics of a Col- lege” feature on page 163. The facts and figures of stu- dent enrollment may seem like dull statistics now. But we feel that 20 years from now you will find it inter- esting to recall how many classmates you had and to compare this total with other classes as the college grows. Some of our layouts have ictures close together to alance the additional use of white space. And the lay- outs have been put together with clean lines of design in keeping with the mod- ern treatment that we hope will make this 1965 Citadel a joy to look at five, ten, and twenty-five years from now, as well as the first time you are looking at it.
