IN MEMORIAM Prof. Donald W. Emmons was one of Broome Tech’s youngest old-timers, and he will be missed by all who knew him. And there are many who not only knew him, but who also benefited from his knowledge, as he taught in the college’s Electrical Technology Department since 1947. Yet he was only 41 years old when he died. It happened on Sept. 8, the day after Labor Day. He was putting in a patio in his home when he felt sick. He sat down to rest and finally was sent to the hospital in an ambulance. He died before he ever reached there. Prof. Emmons was a former chairman of the Faculty Association at Broome Tech, and he served the Susquehanna Valley School Board as its president. In PROF. DONALD W. EMMONS (1923 — 1964) fact, he had recently been elected to serve another term on the school board. Among his major accomplishments were helping to raise the salary level of Broome Tech faculty members, as he headed the faculty committee that work- ed with the Broome County Board of Su- pervisors on this thorny problem. He also was president of the Susque- hanna Valley School Board when it had its vast building program in the late 1950’s. So Prof. Emmons was obviously a man associated with success. The College Board of Trustees has es- tablished a scholarship in his name, a fit- ting memorial to a man who did so much for the college and its students. The entire Broome Tech family — students, faculty, trustees and alumni— mourn his sudden passing.
