Lng co ©) BROOME TECHNICAL COMMUNITY COLLEGE BINGHAMTON, NEW YORK INO ees Ewy The final curtain has been drawn for three people close to Broome Tech since last year’s Citadel went to press. They are Dr. S. David Molyneaux of the Liberal Arts faculty; Neva M. Ash, the college nurse; and Dr. James T. Ivory of the college’s Board of Trustees. Their contributions to the school have been many and varied through the years, and Broome Tech is a far better college because they were a part of it. Even in death they are helping the young people of the community, as scholar- ships have been established in each of their names. DR. $. DAVID MOLYNEAUX “One of our finest teachers and one of the most versatile,’ are the words used to describe Dr. S. David Molyneaux by one of his col- leagues at Broome Tech after his death in June of last year. Faculty members and students alike held him in high esteem for his knowledge, teaching ability and personal qualities. He taught English and astronomy at the col- lege, and had planned to teach courses in psy- chology and German. He joined the Broome Tech faculty on a part-time basis in 1960, and became a full-time associate professor the fol- lowing year. His colleagues had elected him chairman of the Faculty Association shortly before his death, and he was also extremely active in community affairs. He died the week following graduation in 1963 from complications that resulted after an operation. He was 45 years old. DR. JAMES T. IVORY Though 77 when he died in April, Dr. James T. Ivory maintained a lively interest in all around him, as having a lively interest in things was his nature. Broome Tech was one of the focal points of his interest, and he served the college as a member of its Board of Trustees from the day the board was formed 17 years ago until his death. Dr. Ivory was a doer, who loved life and lived it to the full. His many services to the community included being mayor of Binghamton for five months in 1935. A dentist until he retired from active practice, he has been remembered for his professional work by the college, which named its Dental Hygiene clinic after him shortly following his death. NEVA M. ASH One of the Broome Tech “originals” passed away when Neva M. Ash died in her sleep last October. She had served the college since the days it first opened its doors in 1947, and she had served in many ways. She headed the department of office assistants in those early days, a department that included both the medical office and technical office programs. When these two curricula were separated in 1953, she headed the medical office assistant department until she stepped down in 1958 to become the college nurse. She had also been the dean of women in the school’s early years. She was two weeks shy of her 64th birthday when she died. i) eet ae BR. A ee oO ame em Sees ae | ah CR (aT et a ee eee a HAPPINESS... Happiness is many things to many people. But to the mature person it is much more than a few laughs, a good time, and lots of fun. There is much more substance to true happiness. A sense of accomplishment is part of real happi- ness. And that’s one of the reasons that one’s college days can be the happiest time in his life. There are many good times, and in addition there is the satis- faction that comes from achievement, from learning, and from being transformed from a youngster to an adult. As students of Broome Tech, we worked hard during the 1963-64 school year, and we had many pleasant times too. Together these all added up to produce the kind of happiness that we shall always cherish and look back upon with great joy and satisfaction. That’s why we have made happiness the theme of the 1964 Citadel.
