Life is expensive these days, so first Student Government raised money by sponsoring a gas raffle, sale of Mums at Homecoming, Sale of Brookwood pen- nants, and hosting a magician's act. Stu- dent Government then launched into a yearlong parade of events. They started the year off with a Fall Field Day, cli- maxed it with the first Homecoming, and brought the year to a close with a Spring Playday. The highlight of the year, our first Homecoming, was a festive occasion that included the election of our first Homecoming Queen, a spectacular half- time show, and a dance featuring Sun- rise. The Student Government also sponsored various other activities such as pizza parties and other dances. Sponsor: Mary T. BACK: Robert Boissiere, Arnold Bobby McAuley Richard Manny hm Dalrymple. The Key Club is a service organization sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Thom- asville. The Key Club performs service projects for the school and the community which seem to consist mainly of moving chairs around for various activities at Brookwood. Many organizations here must extend their appreciation for this much needed service. Under community projects, selected members busily cleaned out three years of dirt from the Thomasville Courthouse fountain. Aside from moving chairs, the Key Club assists with Brookwood's annual Hunter Horse Show. Sponsor: Robert Boissiereg President: Jim Dalrympleg Vice-President: David Dyke: Sec.-Treas.: Bobby McAu1ey. After one year of being bachelors, ' the Turtle Club unanimously voted to go co-ed. This brought not only more mem- bers, but also a greater interest in the 572 club. Once again, their activities I. m revolved around their summer beach trip to Panama City. To help pay for this trip, they operated the ever popular gold- fish booth at Brookwood's Halloween Car- nival. The members could easily be dis- tinguished around school, wearing their green and gold jerseys. A fear which this club had to live with was the echoing cry of Mr. Lyle saying Will you please set up the chairs! Smoke Signals Does Fine lob of Reporting L to R: Claire Chason, Laney Hines, Ann Shackelford, Bobby McAuley, Ginny Davis, Beth Chambers, Jane Taylor, Susan Taylor, Ashley Russell. Everyone would be in the dark without Brookwood's newspaper. The SMOKE SIGNALS' aim is to fill in its readers with the latest happenings around Brookwood. It costs money to run a newspaper so the SMOKE SIGNALS' staff does various money-raising projects. One of their main sources of income is selling ads. They also introduced Slave Day to Brook- wood in the form of auctioning the members of their staff to perform duties for their masters. Smaller activities which added to their income included a pick-the-winner contest and a baby picture contest. Members of the staff are required to attend meetings and turn in at least one article per issue . The SMOKE SIGNALS' staff is to be commended for its fine job of on the spot reporting and a fine coverage of the news events occurring in and around Brookwood.
