OUR CLASS SPONSOR Words cannot express our deep feeling of gratitude for Mrs. Butler. As our junior English teacher, she worried because our grammar was bad or because our book reports weren't complete. As our sponsor, her headaches included howto raise money and how to decorate the gymnasium for the prom. When we became seniors, it seemed as if we needed her help and advice even more. First came the problem of what the girls should wear for their pictures, and then where we should go on our senior trip. Any credit for a successful prom, banquet, or class play, must be given to Mrs. Butler, for without her support and perseverance none of it would have been possible. In leaving, the class of nineteen hundred and fifty six is very proud of its accomplishments, but more proud of its sponsor, Mrs. Elizabeth Butler. 8

CLASS HISTORY When we first entered senior high school in 1951, little did we realize what lay before us. We started things rolling by electing Bob Pence as our president and leader. We became a major part of high school when we were initiated by the juniors. Remember the pie pans we had to wear on our heads, and how tired we were after having to bow all day? Our biggest problem was our sophomore carnival. We came through, however, for we made the most money that a sophomore class had ever taken in up to that time. Some of the pleasant memories we have of the carnival are: Jack Guth s miniature golf that took him all week to set up, the success of the baby chicks, and what a mess it was to clean up afterwards. We became juniors, and our obstacles included the class play and, as a climax, our banquet and prom. The play cast spent many long evenings rehearsing their parts. At the performances they were superb. None of us will ever forget Bob Pence as the butler and Kent Kunselman as Rodney, the invalid. Then, in April, we began our preparations for the prom and banquet. What a fuss we made when we were told that we would have to have our prom in the big gymnasium. The decorating committee debated and argued for weeks on what the theme would be. Remember how we laughed at John McNeil's space ship idea? And will we ever forget how Mr. Wolford argued that wecouldn t possibly have a fountain? On the big night, we were proud as peacocks lor we knew that we had one of the most successful proms ever staged at Brookville High School. As seniors, our yearbook was our biggest project. We were determined that it should be one ol the nicest ever published. We also had to decide what color our caps and gowns would be. and where we would go on our senior trip. We still had much to look forward to, for soon we would be guests of honor at the prom and banquet given for us by the juniors. After May, we would no longer be a part of B. H. S. We will take our places in the world as teachers, mothers and fathers, doctors, and laborers. The road of life is a never ending one. CLASS OFFICERS Lillian Ewing (Secretary), Margie Whiet (Vice President), Andee Lynn McManigle (Treasurer), Bob Pence (President)
