H. S. with a new principal, Mr. Hugh B. Jackson, to guide us. We started the year off with a bang by electing Martha Rucker as Miss Brockville and Peggy McMasters as Homecoming Queen. We had as our homeroom teachers Mr. Hill, Mrs. Powell, Miss Davis, and Miss Dees. We elected Alfred Wood, Jean Morey, Betty Arthur, and James Puckett as our class officers. SOPHOMORE YEAR 1952-1953 On September 1, 1952, ninety-six Sophomores started their second step toward graduation. We chose as class officers Alfred Wood, Betty Rebertson, Betty Arthur, and Doris Hanson. Our homeroom teachers were Mrs. Powell, Mrs. Carroll, and Mrs. McKenry. Ellie Kirby was crowned Miss Brookville while Marion Wood and Sonny Viar won second place in the contest for Homecoming King and Queen. Although we lost twenty class members we did not lose our confidence, but were only looking forward to our Junior year at B. H. S. JUNIOR YEAR 1953-1954 Our third step was gained with great enthusiasm and interest since we had much to look forward to in coming closer to our Senior year. School started on September 4, 1953. Ninety-four proud Juniors entered the halls of B. H. S. As class officers we chose Doris Hanson, Lucy Rector, Junior Puckett, and Betty Robertson. To guide us we had Mrs. Wood and Mrs. Mason, whose help we appreciated very much. The Junior play, “Where’s Grandma,” was a big success, along with all the other activities that the Juniors participated in. The biggest thrill of the year was receiving our class rings and honoring the Seniors with a banquet and a prom. When you hear people talking about Mighty Juniors—Well, that was us! SENIOR YEAR 1954-1955 Finally in September of nineteen-hundred-and-fifty-four, we reached: our last step toward graduation. We had more confidence in ourselves as we had three years of experience behind us. Sixty-seven Seniors started upon what was to be their greatest year at B. H. S. For class officers we elected Doris Hanson, Donald Campbell, Doris Torian, and Junior Puckett. In the fall we were guests at a football game in Charlottesville. We elected Billy Wilkins and Ellie Kirby as Homecoming King and Queen, and just missed the Miss Brookville contest, with our candidate Elizabeth Perdue. Our homeroom teachers, Mrs. Quigley and Mr. Wright, helped to make all the activities of the Senior year possible, which we appreciated very much. In April we presented the Senior Play, “Penny,” which was well received. Then on to Washington for our Senior Trip, which everyone enjoyed very much. The Senior class placed many students on all of the varsity teams. The Girls Basketball Team won District II Championship. Nine of the Senior girls participated in the events. This was a year that will never be forgotten by all sharing its great events and each class member taking part. With our high school days almost completed we will never forget the many happy and unforgettable events. President, DUVALL ST. CLAIR had his press secretaries, ELLIE KIRBY, LUCY PERDUE, and CARMI LITA REDMOND, announce that he would run again for his second term of office. Secretary of State, JIMMY MILLNER, today issued a passport to JULIET ROBINSON for mis- sionary work in India. Secretary of Treasury, BOBBY WARE, has announced that the United States has not been in debt since he took office after the retirement of KENNETH SNIDER and his secre- taries, CAROLE CRAWFORD, FRANCIS DODD, and SHELBY FOGLE. BUDDY ROBINSON is now top salesman for “Sardines Incorporated.” The S. S. S. Bee Hive has completed its fifth trip around the world under the leadership of Admiral C. V. ANDERSON, First Mate JOHN WILLIAMS and Head Hostess MARTHA RUCKER. It is reported that while on the cruise a passenger, JERRI WOOD), fell overboard and was rescued by KIRK DANCE. Today HARRY EWERS, top F. B. I. Agent, captured the world’s number one criminal. It was his secretaries, JANIE McCONVILLE and BARBARA EVANS, who released the report. DONALD CAMPBELL was given the Huffenboufer Award for “Good Medicine” during the final part of his internship in Maryland. In our local news we find that one of our former residents has gone to New York. MARGARET WOOD is now advertising manager for Macey’s in New York. Her secretaries are PEGGY FOSTER, SHIRLEY BROOKS, and BETTY RUHLAND. JEAN MOREY is teaching Home Economics at Brookville High School, where DONALD WADE is the Principal. DORIS TORIAN is secretary of the school FLORENCE SAUNDERS, HELEN MITCHELL, and ROBERTA HURT are teachers of business courses at Brookville. This is the largest school in the United States. They had to expand the school because they had won so many trophies they had to make room for them. PHILLIP SPRUCE has opened his third florist shop in Virginia. FAYE BOMAR, AUDREY ARTHUR, and JOYCE BLANKS are co-managers of the leading department store in Lynchburg. BOBBY WHITMORE is now finishing his internship at Lynchburg General Hospital, where LOIS ELLIOTT and ISABELLE WITT are the head nurses. NANCY RORER’S husband reported the loss of a bull today and is now trying to find LOGAN HUBBARD, teacher of Agriculture at Brookville, so that he may find the bull and shoot it if necessary. At last night’s meeting of “Best Farmers of America,” JAMES WINNAGLE was re-elected president of the club. WADE STONNELL was given his tenth safety driving award by the bus company which he owns and operates. DORIS HANSON, editor of the local paper, awarded prizes for ere ge to SHELBY HALL, IDA TOMLINSON, and DALE STEPHENS. SARAH NOEL and JUDY BURNETTE announced their prospective trip around the world with their husbands would begin next week. NANCY WELLS, secretary to BAILEY STEPPE, was awarded the fastest typist prize with 432 correct words per minute by last year’s champion, BETTY ARTHUR. ELTON TUCKER and the former PEGGY WHITE announce the birth of the third little Tuck. GENE TWEEDY and the former PEGGY McMASTER also announce a birth, this is the fifth little Tweet. In the sports world we find that DENNIS SMITH is coaching at Notre Dame. MALCOLM: THURSTON won the two hundred mile sports car race last night. Things are really happening to the women of this world. GLORIA HENDRICK, LUCY RECTOR, ALYCE CHRISTLEY, MARION WOOD, PATRICIA MILLS and “who knows who” have started a female Globe Trotters Team. In their spare time from teaching, housekeeping and other various things they play around the country with JUNIOR PUCKETT as their coach. With JR. they have won all the games they played. Oh Yes! JAMES MARKS is their water-boy. That’s all for now, tune in again sometime when you want to hear something really interesting in the news.
