SENIOR CLASS HISTORY FRE-SHMAN YEAR 1950351 In September 1951, ninety-two scared, energetic rats entered the halls of B. H. S. To help us out in our many troublesome moments were Mr. Gordon Brooks, our principal. and our sponsors Mrs. Wade, Miss Harris, and Mr. West. As class officers that year we chose Gloria Mayhew. Gail Baber, Carolyn Snow, and Harriet McCraw. Lectures seemed to be most popular, especially from M1'. Brooks for running in the halls. Although we were wild, we made a good show- ing in the extracurricular activities. Finally we began to settle down and study some. Before the Christmas holidays we had home room parties which everyone enjoyed immensely. After returning from Christmas holidays we had difficulty getting settled, but with the help of fellow students and teachers, we began study- ing for exams. Soon spring rolled around and we had a freshman party which was a lot of fun. Before we had time to realize it exams were upon us again. The end at last and the end of our Hrst big step toward our Senior Year, but happy that we would be Sophomores next year. SOPHOMORE YEAR 1951-'52 September again. Ninety-two freshmen decreased to eighty-three proud sophomores. We were greeted-at the door by Mr. Hugh B. Jackson, our new prin- cipal. On the top floor our sponsors were Mrs. McKenry and Mrs. Giles. Elected to lead the class were Gloria Mayhew, Harry Ewers, Harriet McCraw, and Gail Baber. We took a deeper interest in the various sports and clubs than we had in the previous year. Time went by fast and in May we had a big class party which was greatly enjoyed by everyone. Then our second big step toward our Senior Year had been accomplished. JUNIOR YEAR 1952-'53 Finally we climbed up to be flighty Juniors. We had new sponsors that year and they were Mrs. Quigley and Mrs. Mason. As class ofhcers we chose Gloria Mayhew, Douglas Kirby, Patricia Candler, and Shirley Hartmann. So many exciting things seemed to be happening all the year through. First, our junior play, Nothing But The Truth, which was a big success, under the direction of our new teachers Mrs. Quigley and Mrs. Mason who did a wonderful job. The spot- light of the year was when we gave the Seniors a wonderful banquet and prom and the thrill of receiving our class rings. Now a very happy year had come to a close and the third big step had been accomplished. We were ready for our last step at B. H. S. and looked forward to being Seniors. SENIOR YEAR 1953-'54 On September 14, 1953, the long awaited time had come and fifty-seven happy Seniors entered the halls of B. H. S. for the last time. Our sponsors were Mrs. Quigley and Mr. Wright. As class officers we chose Gloria Mayhew, Gail Baber, Shirley Hartmann, and Betty Wood. Our last year of school got off with a bang as classes were organized. Everything seemed to run very smoothly and time slipped away from us before we knew it. April 1 and 2 we presented our Senior play, The Old Home Town, under the direction of Mrs. Quigley and Mrs. Hubbard. lt was a great success. On April 23 the juniors honored us with a banquet and prom which everyone enjoyed. Of course no one will ever forget the Senior trip to Vtfashington! Everyone had a wonderful time and it was one of knowledge also. After another year well spent in studies, sports, and pleasures, we have begun to realize that our high school days are drawing to a close. With our last big step almost completed, we will never forget our wonderful days at B. H. We won't have to go far, and we're in no hurry so we'll go in my jet. My name F-Destiny. Here we go flying into the futureg 10-15'-20. The years go by like seconds. It is 1975, 21 years after our '54 seniors graduated from B. H. S. Why! what do we see here? It's GLORIA MAYHEW'S apartment! It's a penthouse on 5th Avenue. And there's PAT WHITE. We always knew she'd get into society. She is head scrub-woman at the VValdorf-Astoria. There's M ACON HENSLEY still under the impression he can paint, trying to sell some of his masterpieces. By the way, JOHN POSTON'S latest book, How to Pickle Pigis Feet was extremely unsuccessful. GLEN BOMAR is the center of attraction in China Town. He is selling fish. MIKE DONO- VAN supplies plenty of competition by selling hot dogs, 10c and up. GARLAND KEY is in the same neighborhood running a Chinese Laundry. We always knew he was a clean-cut lad. HAROLD HUMPHREY is the blind man on the street. But when BETTY CLOWD-IS passed by in her bathing suit, he removed his colored glasses. put his little tin cup in his pocket, and just stood there and whistled. Here comes the sad and pathetic part. JOE AUSTIN and BOBBY POSTON have turned out to be gangsters. They robbed the First National Bank of which ROBERT MILLS was Presidentg PATRICIA CANDLER cashierg and HAROLD AYERS, window washer. The fellow we'll all ,meet in the end is BOB BY DALTON, an undertaker, who writes the article That Body of Yours. SHIRLEY I-IARTMANN and AURELIA DUNN are his assis- tants. They finally decided this was the closest they could get to the nursing career. Here we are flying over Notre Dame, and there's coach TOMMY ALMOND on the field working out his men. Tommy has set a new world record. Out of 101 games, his team has won 1, lost 100. fTheir victory was over R.-M.W.C.J Now out to the good ole' west. There's RICHARD MADDOX'S cattle ranch. Look over toward Texas and you'll see DOUG KIRBY'S oil wells. Doug is a big oil tycoon now. And there's OWEN HARRIS ridin' the plains. Owen is known far and wide as Singin' Cowboy Pete. DAVID CARWILE is his radio announcer and SHIRLEY COLES sings the commercial. RONALD ENGLEDOVE and BUDDY WITT are co-owner's of a nite-club in Reno. BOB- BIE KESTERSON and CONNIE MARTIN are the cigarette girls. BETTY DENTON is the hat check girl, and LARRY PORTER is the singing waiter. Right across the street is the Sleep Bee Hotel, run by LOIS DANIEL and BETTY GOODMAN. BOBBY STATON is the day clerk, and JIMMY DOWNEY sleeps at the desk all night. And look who's checking in! HARRIET MCCRAW CAREY and her hubby Jiggs. Although happily married, they still spend their vacations in Reno because often there is some misunderstanding about who is boss. Mr. and Mrs. Blanks, better known in the old days as GAIL BABER and DANNY BLANKS, have just checked out and are trying to get the children in the station wagon so they can be off. Danny is an employee of the Walker Electric Company of which CHARLES WALKER is President. Now on to Hollywood. Well what do you know. PHYLLIS ORE is a millionaire! EDDIE BURNETTE is her chauffeur, and CAROLYN SNOW is her cook! M.G.M. is releasing a new Tarzan picture. BUDDY LINDSEY is Tarzan and MARY LOU THURSTON is his girl friend. We predict an Academy Award for each. NORA VVILSON and BETTY DAVIS are impressing all the big wigs of M. G. M. by fast becoming the most efficient secretaries on the staff. The big wigs by the way are BILLIE PUCKETT, SHIRLEY WRIGHT, PHYLLIS CYRUS, and JOYCE CLOWDIS. Crossing the street just below us are MARTHA KAY JONES and LOIS MADDOX, who, choosing to be patriotic, joined the WACS. They can salute splendidly. Well, on we go down Texas Way. PATSY WILEY and BETTY WOOD are roping cattle while SANDRA NEWCOMB brands them. Did I say cattle? WILL POWELL and ROGER HUDSON have chosen in their old age to be bums. Well, folks, I guess that's all- Who? JACK KEATTS! Why I almost forgot, be's President of the United States. l56l l if Q tg M QQ u ll ATHLETICS 581 FIRST Row: Danny Blanks, Sonny Viar, Alfred Hahn, Carlton Hartless, Tonnny Almond and Dennis Smith, C0-C'Z1pl'ai14J, Curtis Elliot, Richard Maddox, Owen Harris.
