SOCIAL ACTIVITIES Dancing is becoming ever more popular with the teen agers at High School Durmg basketball season our Friday mghts are filled with basketball games but when they stop we look forward to other activities Our first dance of the 1949 season was put on under the direction of Mrs Isabel Condon, chairman of the Social Activities Committee of the P T A after the lslesboro basketball game m January Don Stewart s orchestra played its usual brand of good dance music and the Islesboro teams which were staying overmght with us, were our guests We all had a merry time until the good night waltz at 12 30 The excxtmg H C S S A basketball tournament from which we emerged as champions and a delightful party given to the boys and girls teams by Mr and Mrs Hinckley at their home made the rnonth of February one which we will not soon forget On March Z6 we turned out en masse m our blue Jeans and plaid cently organized Brooksville Volunteer Fire Department by a Barn Dance The orchestra caught the gala spirit of the occasion and furn ished top notch music Steve fairly made the drums talk and Eddie s nimble fmgers pulled music out of that old piano that we didn t know was there All ages danced together in the attractively decorated gym, and the evening was over all too soon Everyone declared it was the best dance ever and wanted to know how soon there would be another In April some of our parents and friends got together with Mrs Arthur Redman, who had been chairman of the Barn Dance and de cided to give our champions a Victory Dance They invited the girls basketball team, our coaches and the cheerleaders There were many gasps of admiration when we entered the gym that night for the Decoration Committee under Serita Lange s clever guidance had transformed our gym into a place of beauty Our eyes went from the green and gold V s on the wmdows to the smlver CHAMPS on its background of evergreen on the tage and to clusters of gaily colored balloons suspended from the girders which later were used m a balloon dance At intermission our basketball captains Sally Herrick and Richard Farnham cut the beautrfully decorated cakes wh1ch were served to us with ice cream sundaes and pop 36 shirts to help the P.T.A. raise money for the equipment of our re- . , . .
