1i'iiU51'fi 111355351513 T H E L E A D E R 1? Social Club On the afternoon of Tuesday, August 26, 1950, a general meeting was held to which, all village ladies were invited for the purpose of forming a civic and social club, said meeting being called by Mrs. L. V. James, wife of the village fire chief. Twentyfsix ladies responded to the call and the following officers were elected: President, Mrs. L. V. James, VicefPresident, Mrs. Frank Youngg Treasurer, Mrs. Frank Field, Secretary, Mrs. Hazel E. Mais. The name selected for the club was The Sheffield Lake Social Club, and it was decided to hold regular meetings once each month. A general fund was started by banking the July 4th celebration proceeds. The success of the july 4th celebration was an inspiration to enlarge the fund and plans were immediately made to hold a fall festival, which in turn was also a big success. The money derived from parties, dances, etc., given the first year, greatly enhanced the club's fund, thereby enabling us to contribute largely to the purchase of an Inf halator, and also to help install a fire alarm system. The club also assisted in the purchase of various first aid supplies. The 1931 july 4th celebration ended the first year's work of the club. In August, 1931, the election of officers for the year 19?-1f32 resulted as follows: President, Mrs, L. V. James, re-elected, First VicefPresident, Miss Estelle La Rue, Second VicefPresif dent, Mrs. A. H. Manchester, Treasurer, Mrs. Frank Field, refelectedg Secretary, Mrs. J. H. Drompp. The new work taken up this year has been in the way of welfare work as follows: the club has donated stipulated monthly sums to the Brookside P. T. A., also to St. Teresa Parochial School which were applied to the purchase of food for undernourf ished' needy childreng at Christmas time many baskets of food were given to families in need. The club has also bought shoes and rubbers for school children in dire need. Inasmuch as all ladies of the village are eligible to join the club and no dues are required, our membership in the past eighteen months has doubled. It is hoped that in the years to follow The Sheffield Lake Social Club will have progressed even more than it has in the past year and a half. ? 1 fflf Q I 1 Twenty-One '
