Rath. l 1 G' 1 ' B k b 11 ir s as et a 1 The Girls' 193081 basketball team has had a very successful season, winning 15, tying 1 and losing 2 games. During the season we made 460 points to our 11 opponents 192. Thus making an average of 26 points to the opponents 11. il Under the coaching of Coach McConihe the girls worked hard to develop a l good team. Throughout the year the girls on the squad showed fighting spirit and ' good sportsmanship, The team worked as a group and not individuals. Due to XM these things we were close to the top in the league standings. l l Our next year's prospects never have been so bright as we have 7 letter girls back. We regret the loss of Bodnar, Field and Tobin-as they have helped us a p . great deal. We hope to bring Brookside their first girls Championship team in Q jx 193142. Come out and help us next fall by giving us your faithful support as has 1 1 1,217 been shown in the past. if ' A great deal of credit should be given to the girls on the second team, through E Q-rv their help and good spirit at practice, we were able to get more from our practices. 1 The girls basketball team consisted of Mildred Reeder, center forward, if the l 1 ball was in her hand no fear of a misplay, it most always meant a basket. Mildred, l 1 , better known as 'iSis was a great help to the team. ul fr I f'p,,,w-NM-'1 1, V. f e . 34 ---A--m--- y ----A--W --PN ----af, ..?......,:.. Y, as - 1 cc- ..... . 'TwentyfFo1,w

E P ll ll'E1ll3l'l ' T h e L e cz d e r SJKX'-23 'l 'f3e'113l s l E 1 Boys Basketball 1 A Without a doubt this year's boys' team was one of the mostilgongenialf hard' working, conscientious teams in the County. Because they gghave always 'playedla' clean, hard fought game, they won for themselveskathe distingtion of being goodsports. The whole group worked like a machine player being essential part. The fact that they won the, first nineiqbfit of the ten league games, gives them a record which was beaten by no class B 'school in the county. Their record of piling: up an axgerage' ofg twenty'two points' per game to their opponents twenty points, provesitheir superiority in playing. Undoubtedly, next year's team will miss the services of John Boyd, Vincent Biltz and Ernest Goodsite, who graduate this year as they were the main threat of their opponents throughout the season. They made for themselves a record equaled by few. Others who graduate this year are Frank Root, Henry Findora, Wilbur Kelling, Charles Schuck and Robert Mittendorf. As a Htting tribute to the boy's team this year, various people of the com' munity presented them with a beautiful symbolic trophy. This is in addition to the one given by the County and is held in the highest esteem by our whole school. LORAIN CGUNTY STANDINGS School W. -ur-lla-falliflfspfrul gsgg T he L e a der QED-.llllfgrulgllnb-:lu-:Q -IEP W. With Barb Boginar using her skillful blocking in a game, we usually would count on three or four goals. Give Barb credit for her blocking, she could also make baskets. Our other forward, Eleanor Field, was a player needed throughout the game. Without her excellent all around playing what would we have done? She could be depended on to get the ball in the basket. - Q , Qenieve june Rath showed up with flying colors, her Erst year on the regular' team but to watch her holding an opponent down she would be taken for a veteran player. June had the speed and used it. Berynce Bunny jungbluth, also started in as an inexperienced player,'l1Jut to see her get thefjump ball, and the center ball no one would have known, her as a new player. She also did a good job at guarding. Virden Maddock, Kid, our captain, is considered one of the best guards we have ever had at Brookside. She stuck like glue to the best forwards in the county and made them all look bad due to her ability to hold them scoreless. She was cool and calm in all emergenciesqgand helped us a great deal to win., our many games. We showed our appreciation ,for her wonderful work by re-electingx her captainof our 193162 girls team. Everyone liked Kid and marveled at her playing. 'Q , l Thelma Miller a' Freshman, should be given credit for her help to the team, she was readye when needed, give her another year of experience and she will be hard to beat. V V ' Rosella Gubeno is anotherigood player, especially is her eye good on basket making. Rosella helped the girls win many games, with her good playing. Virginia Tobin may be small in size, but when she had a girl to guard, size didn't mean anything to her. Leona Gallagher, another small player but one who knows her basketball. She is quick in action as well as quick thinking in a game. There are many other good players on the squad. They all did their share and 'their best to make our season a great success. They are: M. Ferner, M. Stauder, M. Tarnosky, L. Manchester and D. Tomlinson. COUNTY STANDINGS.
