The game with Roxbury Latin was a different story We were on our home grounds which helped and we had loosened up considerably smce the Mllton gamc We finally won 2 I behind the pitching of Tim Keating who pitched nine innings of great baseball Timely and well placed hits by Butch Smith and Archie van Beuren accounted for our two runs Browne and Nichols likewise succumbed as Ollie Niess won his initial victory 7 4 His curve broke exceptionally well as he collected Cl ht strikeouts We got six h1ts and the two errors whlch we made in the field were committed on difficult balls to handle Groton walloped us I9 1 in a nightmare of walks errors and long hlts Their hitting and fieldin experience was just too much for us although we could have made the figures look less like a football score had we played our best Our lone tally was made on a triple by Laughlin and an ensuing infield out Brooks suffered another smartlng defeat at the hands ofa well trained Noble and Greenough team on the following Saturday Despite the fact that we were playing on on the whole We were hitting well but couldnt seem to produce the runs In this game Kramer our second baseman broke his collar bone which kept him out of the line up The next Monday we made up for the Nobles blunder by defeating Rivers 6 5 Ollie Niess was pitching fine ball and stay ed in for the whole game Archie van Beuren hit a double which brought in the tieing and winning runs of the game With the best part ofthe season still left it is hoped that the season will again be successful With very limited material Coach Cronan has produced a fine team 1 C I Cffllll l62l , - 7 . . . . . 4, . . . .
